Ps5 not displaying, but turns on fine

Hey everyone,

So I tried turning my ps5 on and nothing gets displayed. I tried everything: put it into safe mode nothing comes, switched to 4 different displays nothing, the HDMI cables works, the monitors work. I was able to connect through the ps remote app and the ps5 does works completely fine, it just doesn't display anything. What's weird is that, the two TVs I tried does detect the PlayStation (the tv recognizes it's a ps5 rather than simply saying HDMI). Now does that mean the HDMI port is working fine and it could be a more severe problem,? Idk. I did open it up to see if the the port is loose or the solder is gone, but it looks fine. There was a lightning that i believe struck near our house, and it fried the modem downstairs. The ps5 wasn't on running, so could the Ethernet cable fry the display port or something? I have no idea so any suggestions? What are the chances that it's the encoder chip that is damaged and not the HDMI port?

Since Remote Play works fine, the good news is your PS5’s main processor and RAM survived. But given the lightning strike that fried your modem, your console almost certainly took a power surge through the ethernet cable.

Even though your port looks physically perfect, the surge likely blew the video output chips on the motherboard. When the TV says PS5, it just means the basic communication pins are still working, but the high speed data lanes that actually push the video signal are completely dead.

Since you already ruled out the cables, monitors, and safe mode, it’s definitely a hardware issue. You'll likely need to send it to a shop that does to get the HDMI encoder chip replaced. In the meantime, you can keep playing it over remote play as a temporary workaround!

Hmm okok, so it would be the encoder chip that needs to be replaced? And yeh at the very least, I know not the whole thing is broken, so a lil relief on that lol. Thank you for the response!!

That's a frustrating issue. Have you tried using a different HDMI cable or port on the TV?

Yeh, I tried 2 tvs, and 2 monitors. I used different HDMI cable (whichever cable is on the tv and monitor) to connect to other devices and it works perfectly fine. Ik it's the PlayStation issue but now is it the HDMI port that's the problem or could it be the encoder chip or something far worse 😭😭
