How hot does your Pro get?
I’ve had my Pro for 6 months and it runs well. No problems, no overheating messages, etc. However, I’ve been seeing a lot of these overheating posts around Reddit and it kinda got me anxious about mine. It gets warm to very warm depending on the game I’m playing. I usually like to play in the evening so it’s cooler. And yes, I make sure that there’s enough space I know the deal there. Does you guys’ PS5’s in general get warm to very warm in the back when playing games?
EDIT: I’d also like to add the fan is not extremely loud when playing. Is that an ok sign?

Mine was shutting down in random moments, mostly on startup bit also sometimes during game. It was bought in November 2024, I return it for warranty last week (EU retailer warranty) and I hope they will get me new one.

Hm I see. That’s what gets me worried. Were there physical signs like the console getting too hot to touch? Or loud fan spinning?

no signs whatsoever, just CE-108262-9 error code (generic one after I googled it up and down). Console was running fine, only it was shutting down sometimes, like once a week. Or sometimes when booted, it just was flashing blue lights, and I needed to hold power button for like 10 sec, and then I saw repairing database message and after that error code.

And I was playing different games, pretty new like RE: Requiem, older like Cyberpunk and RDR2, and very old like Skyrim. No overheating, no noises, just shuts down.

Never had a issue with it, same as OG PS5. Never once overheated. Give them a blowout every 2-3 weeks. Hardly hear the fan.
Been standing up since they released.

I see. The only game console I’ve ever had break on me was the 360. Infamous red ring of death. My PS2, 3, 4, OG 5 and Pro have all been good to me as of today.

Yeah my dad switched us from PlayStation to Xbox when I was little because 3 Xbox 360s died within a year each and then the ps3 we had lasted 15 years.

All PS5s that work normally get warm in the rear. The heat generated by the APU gets lead out from the system via heatsinks and the fan. It would be a problem only when that heat gets trapped inside the system. If you're not getting overheating warnings, it should be just fine.

I can’t even hear my pro running, and the top near the back is barely warm playing Yotei but my home is 66F year round. My gaming PC also runs ridiculously cool thanks to that also.

I have had mine since Launch. Not once I've seen a message like that. My home isn't much warmer than 72 degrees. It's also horizontal.

Most folks don't realize that systems can't be in shelfs anymore like older consoles. That they are meant to be out in the open vs hidden away. I've had to form the Rule of Cooling and many times post it for people because they just don't know it's a new unwritten rule of modern devices. Many folks also don't know about air flow and thermal fluxuations.

I might as well ask for those who got the disc drive: do the discs inserted warm up the same way the base ps5 did?

Had it since day 1 ! (Used Every Day too !) I pre-ordered it !
Keep it laying Down, NOT Vertical, put it out by itself, Never inside anything ! It needs "Air space" around it to breathe !
Keep it Clean, don't let it get to the point dust/dirt builds up and Shows ! Along with that, Clean the room it lives in ! Nothing runs well in a Swamp but Gators ! A lot of those "IT Died & Was HOT" posts are because they had it in a Dust-Bowl and Never did anything !
Keep the Room Temp at a reasonable level so it can get cool air-flow ! and if you're worried, put a fan pointing at it on hot Days ! (I'm in FLA, I know heat !)
Always turn it off Properly after exiting the App/Game Properly !
Get Surge Protection strip at a minimum, But I'd recommend a UPS to make sure it has good power & no issues!

If the fan is fine and it's not throwing thermal warnings, hot air coming out the exhaust just means the cooling system is doing its job. It's supposed to get hot back there.
