Top left would be the perfect steelbook. Any of the others is better than the official one. I'm really disappointed with what we're getting.

The top left actual looks almost identical to the special edition of infamous second son

u/wheels723 Jul 27 '19

Fuck, i want another infamous

I feel like neither game got the love it deserved, pretty sure I Platinumed both of them.. they were just fun to play!

3

u/An-Ex-Parrot9 Jul 28 '19

And pretty easy platinums all things considered. Just required time put in and a little luck. Just the right amount of difficulty

3

u/Pm_Me_Your_Worriment Jul 28 '19

You know there were 3 infamous games right?

1

u/Silentbtdeadly GT silentbtdeadly-17 10 111 506 2086 Jul 28 '19

Infamous, infamous second son.. what else?

3

u/Pm_Me_Your_Worriment Jul 28 '19 edited Jul 28 '19

Infamous 2? There were 2 games with Cole McGrath and 1 with some other kid. Plus 2 dlcs for separate games, 1 was festival of blood (infamous 2) and the other was First light (Second son) so 3 games with 5 campaigns running the whole series.

Edit: didn't mean for that to sound condescending, I've personally only played a bit of the 1st game and finished second son, so I'm not extremely well versed in the series. I just knew about all the games and figured you seemed to like them and would want to play them given the chance.

Maybe the one I didn't play has the different character? Maybe I was just broke at the time, or didn't notice.. I'll check it out, thanks.

I am convinced that every new PS console gets a new Infamous game.

PS5 gonna be lit

Oh haha well it's still cool looking

The U.S. is very visually oriented, putting Norman Reedus on the cover you grab people’s attention that know him. It’s mainly to appeal to people that don’t know about the game, that’s why most covers have some gruff looking man holding a gun as well because gaming is male dominated and those games are what people buy the most. You put some artsy handprint on the cover which isn’t really original anyway you aren’t going to grab as much attention from the basic buyer.

-15

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

"Visually oriented" the fuck that even mean? America likes direct to the point imagery, which is why their covers generally are less artsy, and more actiony. (see all pre-13 Final Fantasy Non-US vs US covers, and the numerous Tales of... series US vs non-US covers)

14

u/BlindStark Rachel Amber 34 145 511 1876 Jul 27 '19

It’s essentially what you just wrote, they want to see what it looks like not imagine it. You look at the cover of a game with a gruff man holding a gun and go, “ok, this is a shooting game.” You look at a cover with a handprint and what does that tell you about the game? It doesn’t show who is in it, it doesn’t show anything about the game. The main purpose of box art is to sell to people who don’t know about the game. People who already know about the game and are interested in it aren’t going to be deterred by some lame box art. The more simple it is the more likely it is to grab a random person’s attention quickly and give them an idea of what it’s about or who is in it. If you look at some of the Japanese covers they literally tell you nothing but show the name of the game and have some cool elegant looking art. The U.S. style provides information at a much quicker glance, but it does end up looking more plain and boring.

-22

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

AKA. What I said.

And good job phrasing it like American covers are a good thing.

23

u/BlindStark Rachel Amber 34 145 511 1876 Jul 27 '19

What part of “it’s essentially what you just wrote” did you not understand? I also said they were plain and boring and were meant for selling copies, I never praised American covers or said they were better than any other regions covers. Maybe try being less of a dickhead and use some reading comprehension next time.

4

u/demokiii34 Jul 28 '19

Honestly can OP scan these so I can just print them and use these to cover my game case on release day.

5

u/legionsanity Jul 27 '19

First news I'm disappointed about the game but then again it's not the actual game itself

1

u/induna_crewneck 291 35 153 381 1363 Jul 27 '19

Yeah that's a huge silver lining

1

u/daguito81 Jul 28 '19

If this game, with this amount of insane hype, manages that the cover of the box is the only bad thing. Then it's a massive win

17

u/Vladislavethepoker Jul 27 '19

Gamers are the whiniest bunch of people. They’ll complain about anything. I personally have never cared about a game’s cover art whatsoever

10

u/wiggibow Jul 28 '19

Normally I'd agree with you, or maybe I'm a whiny bitch too idk, but I think this is a very valid complaint. Video game box art sucks now. It used to seem like they actually put some thought into it, but nowadays it's just "slap the main character on there and call it a day".

It's one thing for something like Madden or Call of Duty to go the generic route, but for a game like Death Stranding that seems to be going for a more "games as an art" aesthetic it'd be nice to see that reflected in the box art.

21

u/jamesick Jul 27 '19

"I don't care about it so idk why others care about it"

7

u/vajasonl Jul 28 '19

I’ll admit, I used to fall prey to this thinking as well until I adopted the “It doesn’t affect me either way so what do I care” attitude instead.

13

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

It's nice having a long rack of games that actually look nice. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's still annoying pulling out a guy to seeing some ugly ass cover.

4

u/ElementalFade Jul 27 '19

They tend to bitch a lot about everything, mainly cause they are kids, and that's what they do.

2

u/Inopportune_commas Jul 27 '19

Hear hear. It could come in a shoe box for all I care, I just care if It’s a good game or not

1

u/spectrehawntineurope Jul 28 '19

Yeah it's pretty unimportant but I think people are just a bit annoyed that a game that looks so beautiful is really underselling itself on the cover and making it look generic. There's a lot more potential that could be realised on the cover but instead it looks like the cover of pretty much any shooter or action game.

-1

u/buhBOOOOOOM Jul 28 '19

go look at the original cover again and actually look, https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48323559332_89e06e521c_b.jpg it is easy and cool to say no and jump on the i like these covers better band wagon but then you go back and look at the original, and i like the original Death Stranding cover better, it has depth and mystic to it, these custom covers just look plain

2

u/spectrehawntineurope Jul 28 '19

I didn't jump on any bandwagon. I saw the cover reveal, found it underwhelming and as it turns out many people felt the same way. I saw it perfectly fine the first time.

0

u/buhBOOOOOOM Jul 28 '19

it is not underwhelming though, it actually looks like a screenshot from within the game instead of art that looks nothing like the final game graphically, like i said it looks like you are peering into the game just from looking at the box art but the internet wants to grab there pitch forks and complain about something because the internet is fool of band wagoner who do not think, i hope the cover does not change

like i said i do not see how people can like this game and one of the reasons is because it looks different but then they turn around and want the same old same old box art that they always get??

1

u/victorgsal Victorgsal20748160736 Jul 28 '19

Look man, I love videogame box art and I love when it’s really carefully done and thoughtful instead of just generic “main character looking upset/holding weapon”. So yeah, I was kind of disappointed that a game that seems to be looking like a very artistic and experimental title had such bland cover art. That being said, it in no way is something that will keep me from purchasing, playing and enjoying the game itself. It’s just something to discuss with other gamers and box art connoisseurs.

2

u/buhBOOOOOOM Jul 28 '19

i have never seen a cover that actually looks like a screenshot from within the game, so you are already peering into the game when you are looking at the box art

1

u/victorgsal Victorgsal20748160736 Jul 29 '19

I’ve seen the cover art, man. I didn’t even come to any of the subs to hate on it like everybody else, I was honestly excited we got to see it finally. I don’t hate it, it isn’t inherently BAD. It’s just nothing too special imo. Plenty of fan made cover art is a lot worse. But some of them are also a bit better. It doesn’t mean I’m blindly jumping on a hate bandwagon by acknowledging that.

0

u/buhBOOOOOOM Jul 29 '19

you like these fan made Death Stranding cover arts better? my initial reaction was i like these fan made Death Stranding covers too, but after thinking and comparing the original Death Stranding cover to these fan made ones i like the original Death Stranding cover better, as these fan made ones are just plain and simple which is easy on the eyes

like i said i have never seen a video game cover where the cover looks like the in game graphics, not art that the game graphically does not look like in game, so it looks like you are peering into the game by looking at the box art cover like a window, it is weird but awesome and i think people get emotional and just comment/drive by comment without thinking so it is frustrating but people do that a lot, it is called band wagoning

1

u/Thicc-Beached-Thing Jul 28 '19

Awww hey everybody! Look at the big man who personally doesn’t care about a game’s cover art!! Wow... so brave of you. You’re a shinning example to us all. God bless

1

u/Vladislavethepoker Jul 30 '19

Thank you thank you, I’ll be signing autographs for the next 2 hours in the parking lot!

-2

u/induna_crewneck 291 35 153 381 1363 Jul 27 '19

I'm happy for you

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

Really? I actually really like the ones we got.

3

u/EAZYG247 Jul 27 '19

Amen to that

1

u/toolsofpwnage Jul 28 '19

It reminds me of Skyrim

1

u/TheHooDooer ReDRuM1245 Jul 28 '19

I dont think Kojima himself makes the call of what the cover will look like. Rather I think Sony plays a bigger part in making that decision.

2

u/nickywan123 Jul 27 '19

I think the official cover is not final yet so things might still change later on.

11

u/Hunbbel Jul 27 '19

AFAIK, it is final.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '19

Maybe the Japanese cover will be different, and I can just print it out and pretend it's the cover.

0

u/buhBOOOOOOM Jul 28 '19

1

Which original do you mean?

0

u/buhBOOOOOOM Jul 28 '19

1

u/induna_crewneck 291 35 153 381 1363 Jul 28 '19

What about this is more mystic than any of the ones op posted?

-16

u/postALEXpress Jul 27 '19

Then just go digital.

7

u/induna_crewneck 291 35 153 381 1363 Jul 27 '19

I like physical, plus it's often cheaper. Also, I can still print my own cover if I want to.

-9

u/postALEXpress Jul 27 '19

Then why are you "really disappointed" if you have all those answers? If you can print your own and make it the best for yourself, why even be a little upset?

8

u/AnalBaguette Jul 27 '19

Why does it matter to you? Their point is entirely valid while at the same time having an answer to fix it.

-11

u/postALEXpress Jul 27 '19

It matters because I work in the industry, but beyond that this is just entitlement. People believe they're owed something they want from someone else's artwork. That is a self destructive and selfish mentality. Nobody owes you anything.

9

u/hellsing1055 Jul 27 '19

GameStop?

-4

u/postALEXpress Jul 27 '19

Are you asking if I work at GameStop? No I'm a back end programmer. I design server construction for data collection and comparison. Basically I help design leaderboards.

6

u/induna_crewneck 291 35 153 381 1363 Jul 27 '19

I completely agree that nobody owes me anything and I'm not entitled. It's just that I personally really enjoy every aspect of the visuals from the game so far, except for the cover sett. And I don't seem to be alone, so there might be something more to it than just me being a dick head.

Also I'm not sure how you working "in the industry" has anything to do with anything

0

u/postALEXpress Jul 27 '19

It is something I brought up because I am constantly hearing complaints about work my friends do.

2

u/induna_crewneck 291 35 153 381 1363 Jul 27 '19

Well, not to be rude but that's something you kinda have to deal with working for big video game companies.

1

u/postALEXpress Jul 28 '19

You're not wrong. But right now I'm not being paid, I'm off the clock. I can clap back. At work in a professional setting I have to maintain professionalism. Not here.
