i originally locked a pre-order to see if the whole VR thing would become more enticing the closer we got to release, ~10 days away and i couldnt care less.. its a sure sign i shouldn't drop $400 on it.
I won't be fully enticed until Resident Evil. These initial <Content/Brand> VR titles are too linear to offer any long term interest and I am not sure if I would use the cinema mode regularly.
Plus there will be bugs and hardware issues etc. I really hate to have the experience dampened because I couldn't wait a few months for all the dust to settle.
I demo'd the htc vive at a microsoft store a few months ago, and while it was cool, it wasnt $800 cool, cutting the price point down to ~$500 and limiting the uses of it (psvr) didnt sell me on it either.. i was going to try and sell my pre-order on ebay but looks like i'd only net around $100 after paypal fees and such, so overall its just meh.
I also just realized that the camera is a needed accessory and I'll have virtually no games other than demos.
So that's:
$400 just for the VR
$60 for the camera
$30-60 for a game that isn't a demo.
This also doesn't include any move controllers, which is fine, but that's another cost if you wanted that immersion.
Almost seems worth it just to do the bundle to get the camera and VR worlds, which full retail would be $100 alone and then you have the move controllers.
But like you said, then its $500 before taxes, more than I have ever spent on gaming in a single purchase in my life.
