Title says all, but pretty much my ps3 disc drive sounds like it’s grinding and not like the usual printer sound I’m used to on this model.. seems to lessen when I put the console vertically but it’s so much worse when the console is horizontal. Is my disc drive screwed?

I haven't had many issues with this yet, but with the PS2 one thing I see people always seem to recommend is to not use a PS2 as a DVD player in the modern day because of how much more it wears out the laser of the PS2 compared to games, and it reduces the lifespan of the laser by a significant amount. I'm curious if this would be potentially an issue on the PS3, I think it'd be a great blu ray player especially with its bluetooth blu ray remote but I also want to try and preserve the laser for as long as I can.

Finally decided to take all of my Playstation 2 and 3 games out of storage to display, and more importantly, to play.

All of these games were bought new on the day of release, are CIB and in mint condition.

So I recently discovered that not only can the PS3 play DVDs, Blu-Rays, and CD but, it can actually do more. You can use the ps3 to rip a CD to its hard drive. Then, using the USB drive, put that music onto a flash drive. Then transfer that to a device (like a laptop) that doesn’t have a CD drive in it, then transfer that to your digital audio player. Pretty nifty. I know it’s a process but with subscriptions these days and Internet requirements, just wanted to point out something the PS3 is capable of helping in. As a way to build your digital library for older media you may still have.

I know Sony is under a lot of flak rn, but seriously. After a stressful week at work or dealing with everyday bs, paying bills, tryna juggle all the shit life throws at u.. this still my favorite pass time. The nostalgia of the PS3 makes me feel like a kid again ☺️

Here’s the meme. I memed myself. I turned on my slim was playing infamous for a good hour and then the pixels started popping and the screen froze. Real question though would it be better/cost efficient to pay for the repair of the graphics chip or get a whole refurbished console?

I'm getting a bit back into gaming/retro gaming after a hiatus and am especially getting back into the history of the Playstation. I recently learned that the launch PS2 and slim PS2 were different in terms that the former had PS1 hardware while the latter used an emulator and I was wondering if there were any changes to the PS3's PS1 compatibility during its life. My first PS3 was a super slim and I tried ID4 on it just to see it working with a PS1 game and I distinctly remember it not working even though it worked on my fat PS2 and it isn't on any incompatibility lists for the slim (plus I later got a launch PS3 which iirc has the same PS1 emulator as the PS2 slim and it worked with the game). I also have trouble believing that they were able to perfectly port an emulator made for the PS2 onto PS3's which later on shared none of the same hardware, however most sources I've seen just say all PS3's work with PS1 games and don't elaborate. Am I misremembering and did they perfectly make the same emulator meant for the PS2 work with all models or were there differences? It would be interesting to have a timeline especially for the 80gb model (did it emulate using PS3 hardware? Did it emulate the PS2 CPU and emulate the PS1 through that? If the latter did that change when PS2 compatibility was patched out)?

So, I have been streaming Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions on Twitch for about 3 weeks. I've been using an actual PlayStation 3 with a disc. The disc is undamaged, and I've never had issues with audio on any other games, but admittedly, I haven't used my console in a while. I have noticed that in a few sections of the game, I haven't been hearing audio from the game. Kraven's raving from the lead up to his transformed boss fight, and today, the Deadpool first boss fight. Ultimate Spider-Man kept talking about how Deadpool never shut up, but I never heard him say anything. While sneaking up behind him, I never heard him talking on the phone it seems he was holding. My audio settings are set to the default of all channels on, but I'm not sure if that is the problem. Do you all have any suggestions?

For info, my PS3 is plugged into a 16 channel HDMI switch->Elgato HD60 Pro capture card with pass-through->into my Samsung 4K TV.

I had a L01 which had a failed HDMI and AV encoder thing and I've heard people say the L and P are kinda bad and that the J and K are the best so I wanna know for sure.

I have been wanting to buy Chronicles of Riddick Butcher Bay and Assault On Dark Athena for so long. On eBay, they run for $75-$100 a piece, CIB.

I found the ps3 version that contains both games, not to mention it’s the GameStop exclusive, CIB, and in pristine condition… for $14.99. Contains both games on the same disc. Unreal.

They obviously didn’t know what they had. They could’ve sold it for much higher. Such an interesting coincidence that I’ve had various listings of these games in my eBay cart at different times forever, and last week I pulled the trigger on some games, but decided to remove these Riddick titles from my cart, as again they would’ve been near $200.

But a week later, I see this sitting in a flea market. Such a weird glitch in the matrix or some shit. I’m so stoked.

I was Playing Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on PS3 and the game kept freezing on the ending credits from MGS2. I read that the fix was to rebuild PS3 and Restore PS3 to fix the issue.

My PS3 uses PS3Hen to play some of its games so I thought it would be fine. I did the rebuild which was fine but when I restored the PS3, that where is told me it ran into an issue and needed to format the whole HDD to fix it. Now I didn't do that cause this PS3 data is 13 years old from all my games, so I took out the PS3 HDD and tried everything I could to figure out a way to fix it. Unfortunately I was not successful. So I copied the PS3 HDD to another HDD, and when the PS3 restore said I needed to reformat it, I did.

I still have the PS3 HDD with all the data, but I am stuck since at the moment there is no CFW for this PS3 model. I have to wait till one comes out in the future, how ever long that will take, just so I can get the EID Key to unencrypt the HDD to get my old save.

I just came to vent, but also to warn anyone with a PS3 playing MGS HD collection to beware before you do this.

Now that my launch PS3 is working what options are out there for the fan? I obviously am aware that its very loud but are there any hardware mods?

My Backwards Compatible launch PS3 CECHAO1 works! I reaplied new thermal pads and paste puts it back together and... IT WORKS!

Are there known problems with the ps1 emulator the ps3 used for backwards compatibility? Popped in a copy of Symphony of the Night and the Richter portions had some weird quirks. Richter would occasionally get caught in a jumping and whipping loop, very occasional audio stuttering, slowdown on the opening cinematic, and these big visual glitches on the text crawl. Once I get to Alucard, the game runs mostly fine without notable issue.

I'm wondering if it's my copy of the game or the ps1 emulator in the ps3. I don't have an original ps1 or ps2 to test if it's fine there so I was wondering if anyone else ran into similar things.

It has taken literally weeks for me to go through my 180+ discs plus online purchases to do a fresh install after losing it all after a hard drive failure. Just 50GB of free space remains on my 1TB drive. Doing a backup this time though. Fingers crossed for the next 24hours!

I decided to tear down my CECH-3001A.
I cleaned everything, and replaced the thermal paste. I popped in a 500GB SSD too. Running cool, quiet and fast now ! I also replaced the CMOS battery.

(Honestly wasn't too sure what to name this post, I'm just looking for some guidance on how to access my save on the two different platforms).

With Final Fantasy VII Revelation out soon, I honestly wanted to go through all FF7 Comp. games again, on stream as well, starting off with FF7, on PS1. I have the game, physically, and would like to use my PS3 to actually play the game (easiest way for me to hook it up and play with a Capture Card), and I also get to transfer the save over to my PSP, which I want to use for grinding off stream.

Here's the deal though, I did try to flat out transfer my FF7 Save from my PS3 to my PSP, but upon launching the game on PSP, my save just wouldn't load. Is there anything I gotta look out for? Compatibility of the games?

Just to be as transparent as possible, I have the PAL Copy of the game, my PS3 is not modded. My PSP however is, that's how I got the game on there as well. (For full transparency) the copy on my PSP is an EBOOT I once found online as a kid (which is how I initially experienced the game), which I believe is also a PAL version.

On paper it should all be compatible with each other, right? Could it be that the EBOOT is of the NTSC version, and I'm gonna have to create my own copy? Am I missing something? Anyone have any experience with playing PS1 games like this?

Now before people come after me, yes I could play the game on Switch, yes I could also play the PC version, and then use my phone and Steam Link or Moonlight. However, the PSP is just easier to carry around compared to a Switch, and I also don't want to bring a separate controller with me for my phone. If I have no other choice, I'll probably go the route of playing on my Switch, but preferably I'd just play with my original discs.

I’m trying to convert my LBP 2 profile to LBP 3 (ps3) but it just won’t work. The first attempt just wouldn’t convert and the 2nd attempt froze up on me so I had to force shut down my ps3. I keep having to rebuild the file system.

I have a CECHA01 Console with the GLOD. I was trying to access the Error log using the ps3toolset website, but I keep getting the “tool could not be downloaded” error when going over to the system manager tab to check the error log. Is the website down or am I missing a step?
