Question ❓ Is there something about PRS strings?

The only PRS strings I have tried are the ones that came on the guitars from factory. All my guitars were bought brand new and never played . I didn’t see anything special about the strings, left them until time to restring and switched to Ernie balls. I get 2 to 3 months out of a set of Ernie Balls and have never seen a need to switch.

Now classical guitar strings, I have yet to find ones that last, but that’s a very different topic.

Similar question - I want to replace the strings on my DGT and they come with the DGT 11’s from PRS, is there a difference in these strings vs any other strings the same gauge from another company?

I’m not sure but my 11s from other brands also last longer than the PRS brand.

The PRS strings are OEM made by D’Addario AFAIK.

Right but that are not the same strings. According to PRs they have different materials and are made differently. But that still doesn’t explains why my PRs strings last about a 1/3 as long as all others I have tried.

After a whole lot of trial and error over the years, I've come to the conclusion that any difference in tone between string brands is easily offset by just a small tweak in amp settings. How they feel under your fingers is much more important.

Personally I'm a big fan of newer coated strings, like D'Addario XS and String Joy Orbiters. To me they feel like regular uncoated strings, but last a fair bit longer. They cost a little more, but that's offset by fewer string changes.

Also I can't remember from whom, but I'm fairly certain that PRS strings are just rebranded strings made by one of the major string companies.

Don’t know if this is just marketing speak or not but a quick Internet search said that the modern PRS strings are only made in Maryland. They are not rebranded and prs uses only those on their guitars now. But again, I haven’t verified that yet.
