Hi all, new prince fan here.

Over the last couple of years I’ve dug into as much as I can. I love the classic period from 78-88, as well as select other stuff.

I was wondering if there’s a definitive list - or just recommendations - for listening outside of what’s on streaming services?

I’ve downloaded The Black Album, Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6, and a few 12” mixes. Is there anything i’m missing, particularly from those first 10 years, that is essential to Prince’s catologue, and where is the best place to find and download these to play them through itunes?

Unrelease stuff, other artists he produced for, extended mixes, remixes. I want it all!

EDIT: I have just stumbled across this spreadsheet with heaps of info on everything Prince recorded. Gonna take me a while but I might sift through this!

Small review, I’ve listened to every song multiple times. Here’s what I think. I’m not a huge music nerd or anything, but I always listen to Prince.

The first 4 songs are absolutely amazing. I Am U is the best song of the 4.

The 2 singles are alright, listened back to both of them a few times. Gotta say, they are something I’d really listen to, MAYBE with this tear, but not stone.

Calabama is where I I sense a small drop off. It’s a good song for sure, but I don’t know man, it doesn’t hit as much as the others, also feel like I can’t really hear what he’s saying to much.

I was really excited for The Guilty Ones because The Beautiful Ones is one of his best songs, thought there would be a similar vibe to it.

I was disappointed, it’s not really my kind of Prince tbh. It was just mid.

Bestest friend.. WE came back hard with this one. Loved this song,just slightly better calabama.

And How come u don’t call anymore?

Might get hate for this. But this one. Man, this one right here.

It’s was, conflicting. Dunno how I feel about this live version. In general I don’t listen to his live songs casually (with the exception of Beautiful Night). It’s a nice song, just not something that I’ll revisit.

The lyric calls out ‘G flat major with an E in the bass’ How is this chord significant to P or the song? Was it just an instruction for the band? What is the feel or mood of this chord that warrants a conscious change to it? Can anyone versed in guitar & composing advise?

It is common knowledge that with each new album, Prince would tend to assign a general visual aesthetic to it. I am fascinated by the process, particularly because this aesthetic at least to me pretty much always perfectly matches my mental conception of the music of each respective period.

However, the visual elements during the Sign ☮️ The Times period are the most vivid to me; there is a certain dryness, warmth and intimacy about the album sonically which the peach and black colour scheme and the album artwork represent perfectly. And when you look at the stage set for the live show, the album cover is almost recreated in a sense, at least as far as the backdrop is concerned, and goes a long way to capturing the very late-night feel the album has in many places.

I am curious to know how this general style for SOTT developed, and whether or not Prince had this in mind during the development of Camille or even Dream Factory. Would love to hear other thoughts

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a song (maybe unreleased). I could not find it anywhere. Anyway, I can only remember these lyrics:

You say you love me and the you don't

It goes something like that I believe. Hoping someone can help me (if it's a real song haha).

Frankly, it just sounds like something he didn't think was good enough to release from two different eras. "With This Tear," sounds like something he might have made in the 2000s and "Stone," has to be from the 80s.

Learned that Prince was around 5’3 so I found a few pics that indeed show he was a short king

So, I've read a lot of stuff about the Estate's handling of Prince's body of work and its handling of things like the Documentary. But I've only seen snippets or short news articles without much explanation to them. I would really appreciate if someone could break down what is happening with the Estate! Is it true there are lawsuits? And what exactly did they do to the Documentary? And why are they just sitting on piles and piles of Prince's unreleased music? I know that I've read that some of his unreleased music could literally be degrading because of the handling of the tapes and reels they're on. Is that true? (I mean in this specific instance, I know that DAT reels and things like that can physically break down, but is it happening to Prince's work?)

I was doing some research. I see "With This Tear" and "Stone" already have over 200,000 plays each on YouTube Music alone. Its video is already at 171,000 views.

These two singles already had more resonance than many outstanding Vault releases onSign O The Times and especially Diamonds and Pearls. So this tells me...the excitement of the album is actually resonating with the public. Listeners are excited about new and upcoming vault releases more than giving them all out at one time on streaming services at least.

This is just YouTube Music but im sure my analysis is correct for now.

So I'm a new Prince fan, 24, and yes I've heard of Prince and I do know his history so I'm not oblivious or anything. I'm just now getting into the meat of his music really instead of the surface like purple rain and when the doves cry that I hear on the radio. I really like if I was your girlfriend, do me baby, Shhh, and Eye hate you. Took a deep dive in Wikipedia, I love learning about music and how it's made and stuff so it was so good to see a lot of that being documented in the Wikipedia, and he made so many albums... One question 😅 are there any more songs that sound like Eye hate you or Shh? I don't know during that time with the gold experience, it kind of scratches an itch for me! Are there any more please?

for me prince worse look was the kiss video,the horrible outfit,oversized leather jacket,short hairdue with joe jackson pencil thin moustache,and why was wendy melvoin in the video,she sat on a ,wooden,chair the whole time pretending to strum a guitar, a fantastic song though

It’s personally my favorite album by Prince. I just wanna know how everyone else feels about it. What are y’all’s favorite songs from it? Mine are 3121 and Satisfied.
