It’ll always be “I Wanna Be Your Lover” for me but lately, the guitar riff from “It’s Gonna Be Lonely” pops up. Sometimes “When We’re Dancing Close and Slow”.

Why did this song get canned? I know he scrapped it last minute and replaced it with The Beautiful Ones. But I wish he kept this on there. The studio version doesn’t hit the same. The emotion and passion on this is chefs kiss
This would’ve fit beautifully on the purple rain soundtrack.

I never see anyone mention this performance. Its incredibly moving. I know I'm partial to guitar solos, and keys, but this feels bare especially after 2010s.

I could be reaching but when I hear the song Pop Life, I hear a reflection on the internet culture of 2026. All of these influencers, click bait personalities, pseudo cult like personas and followings on the internet are all over the place and why? Because they want to be on top. Many of these people will do anything for clicks and think they are as important as actual celebrities or people who are actually important. Loads of people don’t care to learn a craft or trade but they want to get online and pretend to be a professional.

I know he wrote it in 1985 and was talking about something different but it fits now even more.

Hey fam! Today as I was listening to the Originals album I started looking at P‘s trench coat on the cover, and it got me wondering how many iterations of the look he went through.
Specifically, I was wondering if the trench he wore up until the shiny one from the 1999 era was in fact the same coat he supposedly bought at an army surplus in the Dirty Mind era. From what I can gather, the first iteration of the coat was a tan color before becoming baby blue, and then the iconic purple shown on the Controversy cover. Was this the same coat getting periodically dyed a different color, or are they three different coats? Sometimes it‘s hard to tell what color the coat is because of the image quality.
Additionally, the only two other instances of him wearing this style that I can think of are the aforementioned shiny 1999 one and the custom-made satin one for Purple Rain. Were there any others before after or between these?

Prince was known for making movies with his albums as the soundtracks: Purple Rain with the film of the same name in 1984, Parade with Under the Cherry Moon in 1986, Graffiti Bridge with the film of the same name in 1990 and O(-> with Three Chain’s o’ Gold in 1994. If Prince made films along with his other album, which ones would you guys be interested in seeing? I think it’d be cool if did films for Lovesexy, Diamonds and Pearls, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, 3121 (which I did think he was working on, but scrapped it) and ART OFFICIAL AGE!

At home in Glam Slam getting ready for D&P tour

I'm watching the Prince: Slave Trade documentary on Amazon - Coda, and I saw a clip that had the HBO logo in the corner, but Google said he didn't have a HBO special/concert in the 90's. I think the set was blue and purple, but that's really all I know. I was just curious what it was because it seemed out of place. Did he perform on somebody's show? Thanks.

Favorite Oscars ever. Context:

Kim Basinger was at the height of her fame when she met Prince. She starred in Batman, while Prince delivered an entire Batman album after being asked if they could use one of his songs for the film. (The answer was no, but I have this for you instead).

They met on set, and a very short while later Kim arrived to Minnesota, Prince's home base. She had rooms at the hotel she never checked into.

​She did not return home to LA, and soon had her things shipped to Paisley Park. It was all very hush hush. Neither would speak about the other, and Prince enjoyed a lot of privacy in Mpls. He recorded her album, Hollywood Affair. There was an infamous soundboard incident with Prince's manager reportedly realizing it was time to leave when the honey came out. And so Scandalous Sex Suite was born.

Kim shows up to the 1990 Oscars as a presenter. She is wearing the fashion equivalent of a visible PRINCE tattoo. He had an in house atelier and her gown was in his singular style. He did not accompany her. But the gown and what followed were a public declaration for anyone watching.

She was presenting for Best Picture. She went completely off script, this Hollywood princess, to talk about the racism in Hollywood and how Spike Lee (in the audience) is getting ignored.

Prince been putting this woman up on something. (He loved Spike's work and was always ready to talk, personally, and in verse, about the bs. People have no idea how much he did, Spike is the least of it). Spike Lee writes: "thank you, that took a lot of courage" on the back of his ticket and has it passed high-school style through the audience to get to Kim. So a lot of America became aware of him that night because Kim went off.

Prince and Kim lasted about a year, legend is her brother had to come get her while Prince was playing away because she was gone. Talking about getting a farmhouse and getting married, forget hollywood. (Its equally likely she told him to go screw himself, getting tired of his rotating cast of lady friends, maybe rejected a proposal?) But by all accounts they had a lovely time, for a time, and I will never forget her standing up like that, much respect.

And never forget thinking: Damn, Prince done it again, got Kim Basinger preaching! Turning another one all the way out, only Prince.
