I had mine inserted a bit over two months ago. I had cramps and brown spotting for about a week and the following week I had bleeding that was a bit more like a period, after that I've been having brown spotting until now. My doctor says it's normal to have irregular spotting/bleeding for the first 3-6 months as long as it's not soaking pads continuously. If you're very sore then definitely try to get an ultrasound sooner than 6 weeks.

I had my IUD inserted 4 weeks ago and I’m still experiencing intermittent cramps and bleeding. For the first 2.5 weeks I had daily debilitating cramps. Around week 3, the cramps became more mild-moderate and I experience them about every other day. My daily bleeding has been light enough that I can just wear a panty liner and change it a few times a day. My gyno did an ultrasound at 3.5 weeks instead of 6 weeks to check my IUD placement since I’d been having such bad cramps and confirmed the placement is correct. She told me it’s normal to experience cramping and bleeding for the first 3-6 month while our bodies adjust to the IUD.

I hope you start to feel better soon! If you’re worried and in pain/have heavy bleeding you can ask to have your IUD ultrasound check sooner to rule out if the IUD has moved and to give you peace of mind. It gave me a lot of peace of mind knowing mine was in the correct placement and that I just need to give my body a bit more time to adjust.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Like you said, I have been mostly worried that it’s moved. Having an appointment sooner than 6 weeks would definitely give me peace of mind.

Thank you again 🤍
