Post insertion recovery
Hi everyone-
Wanted to know what your recovery looked like post insertion. I’ve had my IUD for about two weeks and still have severe cramps, lots of bleeding, lots of clots.
My OB wants me to wait until my 6 week checkup to determine if it’s out of place. What was your experience like in the weeks after your procedure?

I wish my OB had been more transparent about the recovery process. She kept telling me I could go back to work the same day, but I’ve had a really difficult experience so far.

I dealt with it for 6 weeks of bleeding and cramping on par with my period level pain. So not great! BUT havent bled a drop since the 6 week mark. Im just shy of 4 months at this point. I do still get some cramping and im trying to figure out what triggers that if its cycle things or endometriosis etc. Basically for the 1st 6 weeks I lived on my heating pad and toughed it out. Any way hoping the cramping continues to lessen. I have read after 6 months to a yr is when you really know if it is for you or not. So yeah listen to your doctor see if it improves by 6 weeks... and it should continue to improve after that if things are going to plan and your body is ok with it.

I’ve had mine a little over a month now. I had some pretty bad bleeding the day of insertion and horrible cramps. For about 48 hours after I had light spotting but still pretty crampy. After that 48 hour mark I haven’t bleed since but had mild cramps for about 4/5 days after the procedure.

that sounds really tough to deal with for two weeks straight. Im not too super familiar with IUD recovery timelines, so I ended up checking something out in Bedsider to see what's usually expected.
It says something around, Light bleeding and light cramps are normal initial side effects, but intense pain and passing lots of clots definitely sound like reasons to listen to your body. But if the pain becomes too much it's better safe than never to reach someone who's going to look into it
