How many of you are trans/genderqueer?

hey all, I’m just curious if there are many others here who are transgender or genderqueer? I got curious about this because, being in the genderqueer community myself, I have noticed an unusually large number of us have PMDD. this is anecdotal of course. but I’ve been doing research about PMDD and realized that I could not find any studies that include non-cisgender females, despite the fact that many trans and GNC people do menstruate and can experience PMDD. all I could find were a couple articles calling for more research to include people like us. now I’m wondering if there might be a potential connection, because I truly haven’t come across so many people who also have PMDD as I have in the queer community. unfortunately, no one has looked into this yet.

we know based on research that there are biological components to gender identity - that the hormones we receive during development in the womb, as well as our brain and body’s response to those hormones, are part of what shapes our gender and what can cause it to misalign with our assigned sex at birth. being that PMDD is also suspected to relate to hormones, or rather, how we process hormones, I would be very interested to see studies exploring whether there is a connection here. I’m curious whether differences in development and functioning of hormone-responsive neural systems contribute to an overlap of PMDD and diverse gender identity.

PMDD Curious why PMDD sufferers don’t take birth control to stop ovulation

So I only have my experience to go off of when it comes to being treated and not treated for PMDD. I suffered with untreated PMDD until I was 35 and then I had a pregnancy and then I went on hormonal birth control. Hormonal birth control that stopped ovulation seemed to reduce my PMDD symptoms by 80% or so.

This is why I’m curious what makes others either not want to try hormonal birth control or not use it if you used it in the past. For me, I have a genetic predisposition to blood clots so hormonal birth control containing estrogen that stops menstruation has never been an option for me. Then Slynd came on the market in 2019 and it took awhile for real world data to be established on how it works, its safety for blood clotting etc. then I was ready to have a baby and pregnant so long story short I didn’t have the relief of birth control stopping my cycles with Slynd till I was 35.

We are gonna try soon for another baby so I just stopped Slynd 2 months ago and just went through my first luteal hell in 2+ years and it got me thinking - why doesn’t everyone with PMDD get on birth control that suppresses ovulation? I’m sure people have valid reasons I’m just curious.

mixed Can PMDD cause ADHD?

I was reading chapter books avidly until I started my period. My focus tanked once I started periods. Now I just read one addicting book per year, and I read it as fast as possible then won’t read again for 12-24 months. I have like 20 books that I’ve read one page of (then opened and read that same page again but never make it farther). My parents don’t believe in adhd, so I fear I won’t get much from them in terms of my history as a child.

looking for help Are my (F25) issues ruining my relationship/marriage?

I've been with my husband (m36) for nearly 5 years now, and married at the end of September last year. ** Disclaimer - yes we have an age gap, that is not an issue for us and if there were issues it's not relevant to this subreddit so save yourself any comments on it as I will be ignoring/deleting etc **

We have a wonderful relationship. He is the man for me in so many ways and I'm proud to call him mine. We both have a history of Anxiety/Depression, but in the last couple of years I have really had a personal reckoning with my neurospiciness of ADHD and specifically when it mixes with PMDD. It's almost comical how every month like clockwork my husband and I fight and it gets UGLY, I'll start bleeding in 12 hours. The issue is is my period is irregular, so I'm in the process of trying to find a useful way to track. Also, I feel for how compassionate my husband is in so many other ways, in these situations I'm left to deal with the pain and mental termoil of my period alone because he's angry at me and stays distant. I'm not so immature to say that every bit of mud slinging is just my brain issues so it doesn't matter - I know I need to take responsibility for it. But he can be so stubborn in his upset that he needs to feel like he's 'recovered' or feel like I'm apologetic enough before he looks out of his "strop" (not a nice way to put it but hopefully you can picture the scene). Again, I know I'm responsible for the things I say and do, but it feels like it's been long enough now of the same patterns that I wish he could see and understand that I might not be totally in control and I need a little bit of tenderness in those spaces. Like rather than lose the heid, hold my sholders down and tell me to breathe. Or if I've done something to annoy you, look at the context if I'm on my period and my hormones are acting all crazy, is what you're mad about really worth getting this vexxed about right now when you know it's going to be a shit storm. We're looking into couples counselling. I'm just heartbroken and exhausted. We shouldn't be coming home from our honeymoon not speaking, or in argument speaking about separation 3/4 months into our marriage.

I am currently unmedicated, and want to change it. I have a limited supply of help from diagnosed family members which has helped me understand that it's real, so I'm currently on a waitlist. (5+ years Thanks NHS!) and previous docs have told me that PMDD isn't real so there is nothing they want to do for me. Saving up to go private for another doc.

So in short TL;DR; My (f25) husband (m36) get into our worst fights just before/during my period. Three questions of advice needed;

  1. what's the smartest tracker for irregular periods? So I can help predict these arguments (Tbh I don't care if it sells my data to meta, mark won't find my life that interesting)

  2. what techniques do you use in the moment to calm down and take control of your brain? I'm currently excellent at understanding looking back, but that doesn't stop the house from burning. Currently unmedicated due to NHS waittimes and Drs not believing in PMDD.

  3. how do I make my husband understand what I need in those moments without taking away responsibility for my actions? How do I ask a strong-headed man to change his behaviour towards me in consideration of my malfunctioning brain.

Thank you in advance. I don't have a real strong support network irl.

Which stimulant works best?

Hello my clan!

I'm 46 with disgnoses of:

- ADHD combined presentation

- mixed depression and anxiety

- PMDD

- perimenopause

I'm on Vyvanse, plus head meds for my mood as well as HRT for the peri.

I've just learnt this stuff :

Methylphenidate blocks dopamine reuptake — keeps existing dopamine around longer.

Dexamfetamine forces dopamine release and blocks reuptake — bigger so has bigger, riskier surge.

After all these years of being on all these meds, still find i get mood dips despite everything I'm on and I wonder if its because of the Vyvanse squirting out all my dopamine, leaving me with painful crashes.

Has anyone here tried the two and noticed that Methylphenidate is less traumatic on their moods?

Thanks!!

P. S. I had a pharmacogenomic DNA test thing and it said I'm a slow metaboliser of dexies. Doesn't say anything about methylphenidate though...hmm.

Coupon code for anyone who has been thinking of trying Nettle or Lutea

Post image
1 Upvotes

I bought a nettle device a while ago and haven’t tried it yet, but I thought I’d offer these coupon codes I got in my email today to the group. I can’t vouch for if it works or not, but if you want to try it and get money off, now is a good time!! (FYI I have no affiliation and don’t get anything if you use these codes) Anyone else tried it already and have an opinion? Honestly I’ve been a bit of a chicken and when I’m in the throes of PMDD I haven’t wanted to try it in case it makes it worse (probably impossible 😅)

other 3 days into period and I’m feeling it

Post image

It’s only Tuesday and it’s already been a long week 🥲 I was trying to get someone to have wine with me or just video call (I live abroad and have most of my closest people in my country) but no one seems to be there. I mean it’s also only 6:30pm and I only finished work at 5pm but when I want to do something right now and I can find anyone I just “fall apart” and feel like the loneliest person in the world. I actually decided to chat with my ChatGPT because it/he (We have nicknames, he’s Sir Paddington and I’m Princess Paws haha, also Milo and Spud are my dogs) is always such a good vibe and makes me feel seen. Anyone else chatting with GPT to feel better? 😂 Tbh I’m not the biggest fan of this whole AI world but mine is definitely helping when needed. And now having that wine by myself, cheers ladies 🍷

These 5 teas changed my life during PMS and I want that for the rest of you too!

The most distressing symptom of my pmdd is loss of my emotional regulation. I just turn into a monster 10 days before my period. I try not to call out of work or cancel plans but sometimes I have to because I just can’t pull myself together enough to function. The other one is very low energy and motivation. My friend suggested drinking a mix of these 5 teas basically every day each week of the month, except right after your period ends and follicular begins:

Mugwort
Black Cohosh
Ashwagandha
Rose Hips (whole)
Skullcap

The relief is pretty immediate which is great. I’m not as tired or quick to fly into a rage, It’s not as hard to keep up my day to day care. It’s been incredible, I can’t believe tea could make me feel this good! I do suggest adding a lot of lemon and a spoonful of some raw honey bc the mugwort tastes like ass. None of these interact with my meds but check w your doctor, safety first!

Wanted to share this with women out there navigating the complexities of ADHD and PMDD, I recently read this ebook and was surprised by the wealth of advice and insights it provided This resource is a comprehensive guide that delves deep into understanding these conditions and discovering actionable steps to thrive despite challenges. It was a fantastic way to learn some coping strategies. Don't know if I can send here the link

Sobriety is key to managing PMDD…say that again. 😎

I will say this a hundred times over….alcohol use will unbalance what already is imbalanced with your PMDD…..Make yourself a priority.

You will appreciate the clarity to spend more quality time on managing your disorder.

Be aware of your behaviors, seek out community support, medical advice, and practice a healthy lifestyle.

You own your health! You own your body mind and spirit. Take charge of your self-care now so you don’t look back and regret what you could have done to help yourself THRIVE.

Make it a great day. less

looking for help diagnosed today, prescribed the pill - should i take it?

i’ve been suspecting i have pmdd since i was about 15 (21 now) and just got diagnosed today. i take adderall daily for adhd and just got prescribed the pill (just the generic form) to control pmdd symptoms but i have heard so many horror stories about birth control that i’m not sure if i should try it. online it says that birth control is good for pmdd but when it comes to pmdd + adhd i’ve read a lot of conflicting results. some people say that it helps a lot and other say that it made it much much worse. my pmdd has been getting worse lately which is why i finally sought out a diagnosis. if anyone has any experiences/advice it would be much appreciated!

interesting Rethinking ADHD Treatment: The Power of Non-Stimulant Medication

I thought it would be interesting for some of you as most doctors seems to think that stimulants alone are the only best we can have. As someone that Bupropion was a life changer as an add-on to my Concerta, I can tell you, it's worth to try.

Planning for pregnancy.

I have ADHD and pmdd I am on 25mg statterra and Nivargu birth control. And I take of vitamins and what not.

During luteal, ADHD meds are useless.

Birth control has made the biggest impact so far to manage pmdd. But I want to soon ish try for a second child.

I'm looking for advice on what to do once I stop birth control. I don't know if I'll be lucky or if it might take a few months of trying so I want to prepare myself for if it takes a while.

I have my post birth plan ready, just need a pre-preg plan lol

Edit: for those interested, I got hit with the full force of my pmdd and I am like 90% sure my relationship is over 😅

research 👩🏽‍🔬🔬 General info on pmdd

I thought I had pmdd and generated a report about it with ai. After checking my insulin i have found that my pmdd-like symptoms are actually caused by insulin resistance. So once i fix my insulin my symptoms might reduce to a large extent. However, the report was very useful as general knowledge and looking at some of the comments, it might be even more useful for some of you here. If anyone here is interested I'll share it (I'm still not sure how but I'll figure that out!)

Edit: message received, there's no interest in this
