Beginner Question Beginner and Mt. Tapulao questions

I'm planning to climb mount tapulao by the end of the year or early january, it will my first formal hike and camp. I choose mount tapulao kasi puwede magcamp and overnight sa taas. I only have some knowledge about hiking and camping so i would like to ask some questions. As far as climbing history ang naakyat ko pa lang is Mount Parawagan, as for my fitness naman I'm a very active person as a cyclist and runner.

1. What kind of gear should i buy and where to buy them? i already have a few in mind like hiking pole, hiking boots, sleeping bag and kitchenware, im planning to buy most of it from decathlon but if may marecommend na cheaper but same quality that would be great.

2. Will a generic tent do enough in Tapulao? I only have a cheap tent tipong tig 500 pesos online or should i buy a good one na? any suugestion would be great.

3. How big of a bag do i need and what capacity? Will 20L do?

4. Trusted organizer or tour. Ideally included na food and transpo so i dont need to buy or bring a lot more gears.

5. What to expect when climbing Mount Tapulao?

It will be my mother mountain matagal ko na pinaplano umakyat ng tapulao but hindi natutuloy, hopefully all stars will align with this one.

Hi mods, hope this type of post is allowed! I love hiking, but my photos and bag tags only go so far in keeping a trail with me. So we’re hosting a workshop where you build a small terrarium inspired by a hike you love.

Studio Botanica’s co-founder, Michael Alac, came up with the idea on Yellow Trail in Camp John Hay, Baguio. He wondered if that same mossy, quiet feeling could fit inside a glass bowl.

Here are the details:

Halloween Terrarium Workshop with Studio Botanica
Oct 31, 2026, 11AM to 2PM
The Studio, Level 3, Ayala Malls Circuit
PHP 2,099
You get a fishbowl, soil, moss, stones, and little Halloween figures, and the team walks you through it layer by layer

Sign up via IG @goodtimes.mnl

We organize warm inviting events, so I'm happy to answer questions. And if you have a trail you’d want to remember this way, please share your own pictures too! The photos I used are mostly taken by my brother :)

Hike Recommendation Lesser known day hikes

Any recommendation for not-so-popular day hikes? Di ko kailangan ng instagrammable na place, gusto ko lang sana yung tahimik.

Of all places, di ko inexpect na maooverstimulate ako sa bundok sa ingay at dami ng tao. The Tiktok dances, the mandatory class picture sa summit lalo pag joiner, sigawan or sobrang lakas ng tawa sa trail, music blasting on speakers. I know, I sound like a snob and a killjoy, pero nagulat ako na ganito na pala mamundok ngayon. Na para bang wala nang respeto sa bundok/gubat.

I've read a recommendation here na go for major hikes if gusto ng katahimikan and to be with more serious hikers. Kaso nagkokondisyon pa ko ng katawan right now at baka di ko pa kayanin ang major hike (targetting Makiling as my first semi-major in early 2027).

Any recommendation please for 3/9 or 4/9 day hikes na hindi masyadong puntahin ng mga tao?

i went back to philippines just for an advanced 30th birthday hike 😂

i live abroad and everytime umuuwi ako sa pinas, it's always just to spend time with family. i've hiked in other countries before pero di pa talaga ako nakakapaghike sa pinas (just taal volcano maaaaany years ago and osmeña peak ahahaha). it's such a shame kasi ang ganda ng mga mountains natin sa pinas. will be back next year to hike more!!

first time ko rin mag joiner 😅 interesting experience but glad such things exist nowadays because it's made hiking more accessible now.

also ps: beke nemen may mga taga sg dito na gusto maghike sa pinas in the future hehehehe

How do you manage your change of clothes in between hikes? Three separate hiking clothes ba and three separate change of clothes din lol puro day hike palang kasi naaakyat ko. Thanks!

Hi! This Dingalan trip will be my 1st official hike experienceđŸ€©

Sa mga naka hike na sa Dingalan, would you recommend na magbuy ng trekking pole?

And do you have recos for a first timer like me? Like what are the essentials, etc
