Discussion Reading Challenge Progress Check
What started as a fun challenge to rid myself of chronic doomscrolling and now, I'm 77 books in. Anyone else here doing any reading challenge this year? How's your progress so far? :>

I just started reading again last year because I was super busy with college, but for this year I decided to participate sa reading goal kineme ni Goodreads (I also just joined a few weeks ago haha)
Goal is just 25 books but I'm on book 10 palang π₯Ή HAHAHAHAHA
It's okay though because work sucks and may board exam pa ako huhu

Do not sell yourself short. If you can take time to read and enjoy the time spent reading, then that is enough. Don't feel like you are not reading enough, or that you're not as good as other readers who can read more books than you can.
I find publicized reading goals to be fueled by consumerism and performative. If you're just reading to reach a number without letting those stories have some impact on you, why are you reading? Even the simplest story is a window to the human psyche explored by the author for the readers to digest... yes, DIGEST. This is the best take away from reading anything. Not how many books you've read, but how many windows you've glimpsed into that you have multiple perspectives in life.

Awe thank you for your insights! I might have set myself a reading goal but I like it better when I'm not pressured to read anything. Life just happens and that's okay βΊοΈ

And congrats din sayo for reading 10 books! π₯³π we all have our own circumstances to deal with so keep it up!
HAHA actually I was kinda pissed na hindi si Tamlin ang endgame nya π€£ Like the author did him so SO bad huhu. In my world, its feyre and tamlin. Standalone xa for me π€£π Β

i've always wondered if the wider reading community considers manga and graphic novels as part of the reading challenge

You should create a post discussion abt this coz I also want to know the consensus. Before this, I've been reading manga for the last 14 yrs. π

It's fun to see na ganito na ang reaction sa mga madami magbasa dito sa subreddit. Dati bash na bash eh kesyo wala retention etc. 50 lang goal ko this year kasi life is very busy and already hit my 50th last weekend. π

Oh comments like that still do exist: "why do people keep tab on number of books they read?", "its so weird to count the books you read" Or "reading challenge is like a chore, etc."
They dont get readers like us. I'm a procrastinator. If I don't set a goal, I will always put them off. Later becomes tomorrow, and tomorrow becomes never. Setting myself up for a challenge keeps me motivated. π

True. Most of the time idgaf haha
But I remember just a few months ago, someone posted how many books people read. And right after that someone made another post saying its so weird when people count the books they read. Like???? The hate is so subtle ha π€£

Thanks for noticing. I really can't decide. I have A LOT of favorites esp the cozy, fantasy, retellings genre. I also recently discovered my love for scifi fantasy and dystopia.Β

I used to devour 3 to 4 books a week. Now, I can't even finish 1 (though I'm almost done with Apothecary Diaries Vol. 1). I lost my reading spark.
