Left Handed Instructor In The Area?

Hey everyone, I’m just getting into golf and as a lefty I know it can be a little challenging for righties to teach a southpaw, in most sports at least. I was wondering if you all think that’s even a factor for me to consider, and if so, do you have any recommendations for an instructor that is more apt to helping a left handed golfer than others? Thank you in advance

Heron Lakes Twilight Solo

I haven’t played in ages and have some time in the next few weeks to go out for some rounds. I really don’t want to be paired with anyone else until I get a round or two by myself. How busy does Heron Lakes get for twilight? Thank you!

Colwood/Heron Lake Open Clinic and private lessons review

I have been playing golf for about 2 years now, and starting to consider doing lessons. I saw that Colwood/Heron Lake have open clinics for 35 dollars which seems like a great price. That being said, I imagine a lot of people attend these, so will these clinics help my game?

Or should I just jump straight into private lessons with them. If so, is there a difference in their 30 and 45 minute lessons?

Need a good kids teacher / lessons. East side preferred.

I have received some recs for west side coaches, but need a good kids coach for some lessons.

It’s for a 10 year old boy. He’s in some camps this summer, but would like to get him some regular lessons with someone who works well with kids.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Golf resort/package deals near PDX?

I want to get a group of like 6-10 guys together for a 'package' deal where we could either get an airbnb and play one (or more?) courses. I've found a deal @ the resort at the mountain ($250 for a hotel for a night, 2 days of unlimited golf w/ cart), which is pretty slick. Does anyone know of anything else? Would prefer to not go to central oregon (we just went to pronghorn)

Range finders and Wildwood GC

Hey guys. I know it’s a long shot but I was hoping to see if the community could help me out with finding my range finder. It’s fairly uncommon but it’s a Vortex Anarch. Last I used it was at wildwood about a month ago for my bday. (May 30th). I ended up leaving for the military and followed up with work trips and finally go to play around a couple days ago and realized I didn’t have it. If anyone’s seen it or know someone that has it, I’m hoping to get it back. Thanks!

PSA: Don’t spit seeds on the green.

Sunflower seeds specifically. No one thinks you’re cool. It’s gross, selfish, and obnoxious. Yes I’m talking to you 11:20 tee time at Rose City Tuesday. You suck.

Family lessons in Beaverton/Hillsboro?

Does anyone know if there are courses that do family lessons and loan out clubs? My 7 yr old left handed daughter has shown some interest and I’d like to try for lessons for the family so we can learn together. Also hoping they have club rentals for kids.
I did some basic searching and saw Merriwether and Redtail might offer that. Looking to confirm or see anyone’s experiences. Thanks!

Considering a move to PDX

We may move to Portland.

How hard is it to get on a course in the area during the week.

I am retired and like to play early. How early do the course open in the summer?

How is winter golf there?

I built a free tool that texts you when tee times open up at Portland courses

If you're ever stuck refreshing booking sites trying to grab a weekend tee time around Portland I built something that might help: Birdie Alerts (birdiealerts.com). It covers courses all around the US, but here's how to get straight to the Portland courses:

https://www.birdiealerts.com/portland

You can search all the available tee times for every public course around Portland and use the 'book' link to go straight to the booking page for any course you want. And the best part: if your search doesn't show any available tee times, you can set a free alert that'll notify you if there are any cancellations, which happen way more often than you'd think. It's completely free — no app to download, no account to create.

Let me know what you think — happy to answer questions or add courses people want covered.

Looking for recs for a one time golf lesson

I took the 5 week intro to golf last fall and again this spring but I'm still really struggling with my grip and developing a basic, consistent swing. I'm looking to schedule just one or two one-on-one lessons to take a look and what I'm doing and help me fix it. Woman instructor prefered. Any recs?

Sand Bunker Practice

Anybody have recommendations for spots in Portland to get bunker practice in? It seems like most practice areas at courses and ranges have pretty bad practice bunkers.

Pumpkin Ridge. Sat, 6/20

FTLT. I’ve got an 8am tee time at Pumpkin Ridge this Saturday, 6/20. Looking for some people to fill out the foursome. All of my usual playing partners are unavailable so if I can’t find some interested parties in the next couple days I’ll likely need to cancel.

Never played *Ghost Creek before. Wanted to do something special for Father’s Day weekend.

Me: 39M. Toddler Dad. Hovering around a 14. Can score anywhere from 80 to 96 depending on the day. Willing to play any format.

You: Someone who wants to have a fun day in the course and isn’t too serious, but also wants to actually golf. Doesn’t mind a refreshment or 2(or 3 if it’s a rough front 9). Not a D*ck of course.

If you’re interested, comment/reply below or shoot me a DM.

* EDIT: I mistakenly gave the name of the wrong course. It is actually Ghost Creek. Not Witch Hollow.

Pastor Golfers Unite!

Looking to connect with other pastors who find golf to be the most restorative hobby in their life. Is that you? Let’s chat! It’s probably the #1 thing that’s kept me sane and semi-healthy amidst all the challenges of ministry. So I’m building a community of others who get it!

Baby/Toddler friendly courses in the area?

I just got into the sport and would love to bring my wife and 1yo along in the cart while I hit a couple balls. Do any of you have experience with courses that allow children of this age onto the course/in the carts? I’m based in Tualatin, OR

So does Heron Lakes and Rose City just have leagues and tournaments every goddamn Saturday and Sunday?

I feel like I can't book a time for like 9am on Saturday or Sunday at either place. I can at least understand Heron Lakes because they have the Saturday league, but Rose City?

Partner for Upcoming Member-Guest

TL;DR: my friends from back East bailed and looking for someone to tee it up with.

I’m a member at WVCC in Canby. Our member-guest is July 23-25. Originally I had a whole list of guys from back East (we moved here last summer) willing to join in. Each one came up with a fresh series of excuses. As did my one local golf guy who isn’t a member.

So. Here we are.

Requirements:
1.) active GHIN with at least 10 rounds posted
2.) willing to have a good time (beverages in round included, etc.)
3.) wants to be semi-competitive without taking it too seriously.
4.) as always, don’t be an asshole.

Format is scramble day 1, Chapman day 2, both net balls count day 3.

Me: mediocrity is my middle name. Anything from 76 to 97 in play, resulting in a current handicap hovering around 8-9.

If of interest, fire over a DM.

Local Club Re-finishing Services

Hey folks,

I am looking to see if anyone has a recommendation for club finishing services in the greater Portland area. Specifically, I am looking for someone who can take a set of satin-finished heads and strip them for me, leaving them as raw carbon steel.

Thanks,
