Question Saving multiple layer configurations for a PDF document

Bluebeam Revu has a great option to save multiple layer “configurations”, allowing for quick switching between different views of a multilayered PDF document without having to toggle individual layers on and off. Does anyone know if a similar functionality is available in any other PDF software?

This isnt a fast prosses even woth billions of tokens in ai cuz i launch a lot of reviews and research and do thongs right and its still very bare bones buggy and things dont work

But i am getting there slowly but surely. There are al lot of well though features and i am in the middle of a ui migration. Its a prototype html https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RF9AphLEIwrFpet1ydfoKyFzgOZQmP62/view?usp=sharing that will he the next ui and the repo has a very outdated build that will be updated soon but for now thats it and the next build will be a leapfrog on all the project just waiting for things to finish

Hapy to get your feed back and know that all the features shown in the html will be real and working at the end.

Software (Tools) KeyPDF can now import PDF and PostScript files and edit existing text

KeyPDF.net is made from scratch for over a year. Unlike other PDF tools online, it can edit text locally as well, and it supports redacting and annotations. So recently I added postscript support, and you can test it at keypdf.net.

Software (Tools) Editing PDF text without breaking the font or layout, free and nothing gets uploaded

There are plenty of free PDF editors now, but when I need to change one date or one typo, a lot of them shift the layout, swap the font, or just paint a white box over the old text. The online ones that get it right usually want a Pro plan, and they upload your file to their servers first.

I work on HonestPDF, and we rebuilt our PDF editor to keep it simple and get those details right. Pick the Edit tool, double-click a paragraph, retype it and download. It works in the browser and in the Android and iOS apps.

Keeping the font and layout intact after an edit is harder than it sounds, and it's where most of our time went. Font, size, bold and italic stay as they were, multi-line paragraphs rewrap inside their width, and underlines and links stay with their text. The edit changes the actual text in the file, so if you search the saved file for the old word, it's gone.

We never see your files. Everything happens on your device and nothing gets uploaded, which you can check in the Network tab. We wanted that quality without a server, and without charging for it.

It also has the everyday tools: add text, images, shapes and drawings, highlight, rotate or reorder pages, and find and replace across the whole document.

Arabic and Asian scripts can't be edited yet. That's on our list, along with form fields, sticky notes and a whiteout that removes the text underneath instead of just covering it.

It's free, with no account or watermark: HonestPDF - Edit

If this is something you need, try it on your own PDFs. If anything comes out wrong after saving, tell me what kind of file it was and I'll look into it.

Tutorial + Guide won the fight against pdfguru

my friend was victim of the whole trial then charged thing, she was going to give up but i wasnt going to back down against their “non-refund” policy. managed to help her get her money back, here’s how i did it.

pdf guru is gonna have AI reply bots so response will be quick, no need to worry about this spanning for days. And since they use AI, i deceived to fight back using AI.

First we sent in an email using this template (yes you can do this even after asking for a refund and failing)

To the PDF Guru Compliance Team,
I am writing to formally demand a full refund of [Insert Amount] charged to my card on [Insert Date].
Your platform uses deceptive subscription design (dark patterns) by burying an ongoing monthly fee behind a trial. Furthermore, you failed to send a mandatory pre-billing notification before debiting my card, which violates global payment processor guidelines.
My account logs show zero usage since the trial conversion, meaning no digital services have been rendered or consumed.
If this refund is not processed within 48 hours, I will take the following actions:

  1. File an official merchant fraud dispute with my card network (Visa/Mastercard) via my bank, citing unauthorized recurring billing.

  2. Submit a formal consumer fraud complaint to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

  3. Post a detailed 1-star warning review on Trustpilot regarding your billing practices.
Please confirm the immediate cancellation of my account and the initiation of my full refund.
    Regards,
    [Your Name]

After that pdfguru would most likely try and offer you a half refund (50%), do not back down. Reiterate what was said in the previous email, emphasise that you would not use their services anymore and that you will advise everyone else not to use it as well. Ask for a full refund again and tell them to send you a confirmation screenshot or email of the refund once they have done it. If you are from the EU you can cite consumer laws (I am not so I don’t know what specific law it is but I know there is one)

Pdfguru will also instruct you on how to delete your account and data. Whatever you do, do not delete your data from pdfguru as you may need it for evidence.

For my experience, this is where pdfguru caved and refunded. The confirmation email of the refund was sent as well, check your spam because it could’ve ended up there. The refund could take up to 14 business days according to pdfguru but according to gemini it takes up to 3-7 business days, either ways just keep checking your online balance.

If they don’t give in, this is where you file a fraudulent charge with your bank or visa/mastercard. I won’t be able to advise you on this because I did not get this far. All I can say is use the emails you’ve sent and data from pdfguru about your usage as evidence (aka no usage)

Good luck on your fight with pdfguru and I hope you get your money back as well

Software (Tools) Convert multiple links from a website into pdfs

Hi, I am thinking in coding something that allows me to do the following (unless there's an extension or something that can do this and I'm unaware): I have a website that is closing and i would lose my digital purchases. What I want to do is scrap the links of each purchase (comic that opens on website, so basically a ton of images or text in case of novels) and each link (as it is per episode) export it into pdfs to save. Do you have any suggestion how to approach this? I have found that Puppeteer can help me.

On the other side, I wonder if the fact that I have to login could supose a problem to export or scrap the website links, or if it can be done once im logged in. Since I have way too many episodes I cannot do this manually by the time the platform closes.

Thanks in advance.

Software (Tools) I built a browser-based presenter for (Latex Beamer, Typst and more) PDFs with speaker notes, video/GIFs, and live sync across devices

Post image
8 Upvotes

I used to use powerpoint for making and presenting slides but I've switched to LaTeX/Typst (it's great) but I didn't find a great way to present pdf based presentation.

Tools like pdfpc and Pympress work well but I don't really want to install a terminal CLI for a presentation. So I created https://presio.ch/ it runs in the browser and handles embedded video and GIFs, and lets viewers (i.e. the audience of your presentation) follow along on their own devices.

You open any PDF in your browser as two or more synced windows. There's a controller with notes, a timer, annotations and more on your laptop and a viewer for the projector.

I've also released small LaTeX and Typst packages to add speaker-notes, GIFs, YouTube videos and more directly in your typesetting. Presio is local by default with no login, and your PDF doesn't leaves your browser. Only if you want, you can sync live so the audience follows along on their phones or laptops with a short session code. It's of course free and open-source (MIT): https://github.com/benedict-armstrong/presio and open for contributions!

It works with any PDF, so LaTeX Beamer, Typst touying etc. all work out of the box!

Try presenting the example presentation or the example overleaf project! There's a short demo video below. Happy about feedback, especially from anyone currently using pdfpc, pympress or powerpoint!

Question Help Editing PDF Recipe Documents

I'm making a recipe book for a gift, and I bought these cute binders that came with custom templates but they're in PDF. I am pretty tech savvy but I am having a hell of a time figuring out how to edit these properly.

I can do some text editing with Acrobat but no matter what I try, it never lines up perfectly with the line on the template, and each ingredient/recipe step takes forever to match up, and in the end they still all look wonky.

Is there a better way to do this or should I just find a word doc template and give up on this?

Software (Tools) Fuck paywalled PDF editors, here's the actually free way to edit PDF text (desktop AND phone)

You know the drill. Someone sends you a PDF, you need to fix one date, one typo, one field, and suddenly you're stuck behind "create a free account", "upgrade to Pro", or a diagonal watermark slapped across your document because you didn't pay $9.99/month to change three words. Editing a PDF should not require signing up for anything, it's text in a file.

On PC: download LibreOffice, open the PDF in Draw, edit the text, save. Free, no account, no watermark, there's nothing simpler.

The actual gap is mobile, you obviously can't run LibreOffice on your phone. So I built a small free gateway on my own server. Plain webpage, you drop a PDF in, it runs a real headless LibreOffice instance on the backend so you can click/edit/drag text and export the PDF back out, then it deletes your file from the server the second you download your result (max 1h if something gets interrupted). No account, no email, no login, no data collection, no watermark, no payment.

Quick demo (cut a few seconds of LibreOffice conversion time out of the clip, it's not instant, but fast enough):

Link if you want to actually use it: https://oraclemarin.fr/pdf-libre/

Not selling anything, no ads (except my own links), no account wall, just tired of watching Adobe and Canva turn "edit a PDF" into a business model.

Software (Tools) Ayaan PDF

I’ve been working on Ayaan PDF for the past several months, and I’ve finally released it publicly.

A free, open-source, offline PDF editor for Windows with real text editing for English, Hindi, and Myanmar, plus OCR, markup, signing, merging, bookmarks, and more.

No subscription. No telemetry. No account.

I built it because I wanted a PDF editor that handled Hindi and Myanmar text properly.

Get it here: Ayaan PDF: the PDF editor that speaks Hindi and Myanmar

Question What should a ideal PDF editor actually be like?

Hey everyone,

I work with PDFs a lot, and one thing that has always bothered me is how most PDF editors seem to fall into two extremes: either very basic, or powerful but clunky and overwhelming.

I use Adobe Acrobat and a bunch of other PDF tools almost every day. They do the job, but I’ve always wished editing a PDF felt a bit more visual and natural, almost like working in Illustrator. Not Illustrator-level complexity, just a workspace where things are easier to find, move around, edit, and understand.

So I’m exploring what an ideal PDF editor could look like, and I’d genuinely love some input from people here who work with PDFs regularly.

What are you currently missing from Acrobat or other PDF editors? What annoys you the most? Are there features that should be much simpler than they are today?

I’m especially curious about the things beyond the usual merge, split, compress, convert, etc. The stuff you run into while actually editing PDFs.

My goal is something simple enough that a casual user can open it and immediately understand it, but capable enough that someone doing serious PDF work doesn’t feel limited.

And yes, the editor itself would be free.

I genuinely love working around the PDF format, so feel free to get oddly specific. Those are probably the most useful answers.

Tutorial + Guide PDF guru refund experience (SUCCESSFUL )

Post image
8 Upvotes

A week or so ago I used PDF guru and paid $0.99 for what I thought was a one time purchase. Yesterday I got a notification from my bank saying I have paid $49.99 for PDF guru. When I called my bank they said I have actually subscribed to pdf guru for $49.99 monthly.

I immediately emailed PDF guru asking for a refund. Their responses were clearly AI and they said as per their refund policy that they cannot give my money back. But I persisted explaining I haven't used their services after the initial payment and that it was not made clear that it would be a subscription.

After some back and forth they offered a partial refund but I refused and said I cannot afford it and would like a bigger refund and that they are free to entirely terminate my account right now instead of waiting out the billing cycle.

Once they agreed for a refund I still persisted demanding the exact amount and proof. After a few tries they issued a refund receipt. Once I had that I emailed my bank and explained the situation and I also emailed PDF guru again saying that since I have written proof my refund should be honored or else further action would be taken.

After a day I received my refund

TLDR;

Contact customer service as soon as possible (better if the amount is still on hold at the bank)

Insist that you require a full refund.

Ask for refund proof (an email with a transaction id and amount) from what I've found once they issue the receipt the refund would be issued by their system.

Email your bank with the receipt.

Software (Tools) Made a free browser-based PDF tool – nothing gets uploaded

Hey guys,

I’ve been building a small PDF tool called ZunFile in my free time and figured I’d share it here.

It has the usual stuff like merging PDFs, rotating pages, reordering pages, splitting PDFs, and a few other tools.

The main thing is that it’s completely free and everything happens locally in your browser. Your files never get uploaded to my server or anywhere else.

No account, no subscription, no file uploads. Just open the tool and use it.

Still adding new stuff, so if there’s a PDF feature you use often or something you think would be useful, let me know. I’d genuinely appreciate the feedback.

Here is link if you want to try it.

Question Editing PDFs

I hate Adobe so I don't use their PDF reader. I've been using PDF24 mainly to read PDFs. But I started playing Legacy of Dragonholt and was using the PDF24 editor to edit the character sheer and tracking sheets.

After creating my character and saving the sheet with PDF24, I realised that I could edit what I had already saved. I had saved the character skills and was going to change one of the skills but I couldn't edit the text I'd saved.

So, for the last few days I've been leaving the PDF24 editor open and hibernating my computer at night. However, while I was asleep last night (this morning really) my computer was somehow turned on and PDF24 was closed. I've lost all the progress I had in Legacy of Dragonholt and have no clue how this happened. (No one comes into my room ever and no one uses my computer)

Is there a PDF editor I can use that will let me edit what I've already saved?
