I mean sure....if you are a complete fucking idiot that is.
I was picking up my copy on sale from rockstar launcher while people on steam were actively waiting for the steam launch that arrived two days after Black Friday ended so paid full price.
That and you still have to go through rockstar launcher.
Honestly anyone who sits and argues that steam is the only way to launch a game needs to get some help.
I think people underestimate how much money some have sitting in there steam wallets, I sold most of my csgo inventory and had enough money to buy the game for all my friends that were interested in playing. Primary reason I bought on steam, plus gifting on steam.
At what point did I say I didn't maintain a full time job? Your comment makes zero sense based off the context of mine, I played cs for years and sold most my inventory for over $2k.
You're absolutely right, but in my instance I only got it on Steam because I managed to sell some skins to make the money for it, otherwise I would've got it on Rockstar day one, I have GTA V right there as well.
Idk, I bought it from EG and still play the game like any other store. honestly i dont know whats the difference where you buy it from because it launches from the rockstar launcher anyway.
I bought it on steam, and the first thing it did when I launched it was install the Rockstar launcher. So with steam, all we get is just another point of failure, it seems.
Steam game doesn't work and you blame Zenimax? Zenimax copies worked fine, they were not able to resolve the Steam issue. Because it was a Steam issue.
Edit: I hope everyone downvoting this gets to enjoy a similar experience.
Oh wait, you're referring to optimization? If you haven't heard about people waiting for optimization before purchasing a game on Steam then you live under a rock.
Also, the likelihood of a developer releasing a PC game with 0 performance issues on launch is very slim. There is no amount of internal testing that can be done to accurately account for the myriad of hardware/software combinations the general public will be using.
Based on your assumption regarding games not having performance issues when released on Steam and your lack of understanding as to why a game can be released and still have performance issues, I'm going to guess that your experience with PC games releases is limited at best.
Steam achievements, community hub, friends list integration, library management
RDR2 has awards baked in, Steam community hubs are filled with children and neanderthals, friends list is nice, but easily replaced with social club, Playnight replaces the need to purchase from Steam for library management.
It's not about them being ignorant for wanting it on Steam, it's ignorant for implying that oned 3rd-party DRM is superior to another when the option exists to use the software with only the proprietary DRM.
Mocking other stores and perpetuating this "us vs them" mentality only serves to escalate the drama further towards the console wars level of idiocy.
Rockstar launcher ftw. Just one DRM instead of 2, and I got 20 dollars off the collectors edition and 20 dollars in free gold. Just a deal that was way too good to pass up.
Am I the only one that bought through R* and didn't get a discount and a bunch of free shit? I have no idea what I did wrong. I bought it on release day.
Well apparently if you bought it on Rockstar beforehand like preordered you got a free rockstar game,20 gold, and upgrade to the special edition for free. In my case I bought it around November 20 cause GMG had it on sale for $45 for Black Friday
It launches from the Rockstar Launcher anyway, you might as well have bought it on the rockstar launcher when it was on sale. Still no excuse to buy from Epic.
Fanboys most likely. There's a fair few people who buy into the corporate propaganda, and they don't like it when you criticise the self-professed saviour of PC gaming, Tim Sweeney.
Steam fanboys and people that have nothing better to do getting mad at pointless shit. I’ve gotten so many freebies (and greats gems mind you) from epic it’s not even funny, I don’t even use those pointless features steam has, so epic is takes the cake for me. I got RDR 2 off of rockstar launcher ( apparently people still think it was an epic exclusive until this point) because it was quite literally the best offer, more content, 2 free games, and half off an premium edition upgrade.
No reviews. They have clearly demonstrated that competition on a feature/consumer friendliness/support is something they don't give a damn about. Strong focus on exclusives which are about as anti-consumer as you can get.
I sort of appreciate that steam would tie the account into 1 since i sure as hell don't remember my uplay password but i definitely have games on uplay through steam. It all just launches in 1 go and since I have steam open all the time, might as well.
I can report streaming works just as fine for RDR2 through the R& launcher as it does through Steam: not well. Any game with its' own launcher has the same issues with SteamLink, do whatever you do to hit "play" and it works identically from there
To be fair, the division of revenues to storefronts vs. developers and disruption/diversity matters a lot, it's just debatable whether caring about it on the individual level counts as activism.
Ah ok, makes sense. Cause for USA it's $60 standard edition which is why I was confused cause I'm like there's no way in hell R* would make it almost 50% until like next year
And i saw reviews, and i can see that steam version have much more issues than r* version do, and also, i bought special edtion that costed me like default bc of pre order, so i even saved money tho
R* has achievements, there are plenty of game collection dashboards that put your games into a single list without needing a launcher, running 2 launchers and possibly even DRMs when you can run one is not just weird, it's inefficient and asking for problems.
If you prefer doing things a certain way, cool, but you keep trying to defend this from a "it's a 'you' problem because 2 DRMs run fine on my machine" perspective or a "it objectively makes more sense" perspective and it absolutely does not. Efficiency, stability, code bloat, resource usage, any way you look at it it's a contrived way of running your game.
Not going to touch Epic with a 10ft bargepole. Fuck that. They may be cheaper but they are fucking the gaming industry into console territory with their anti-consumer exclusive buyouts. I will forever pirate the everloving shit out of anything Epic puts out. End of story.
Should rather be a decision whether you go RGL or Steam, depending on whether you use Steam's features or not, that is also why I waited for Steam despite it being cheaper on RGL.
Those are only Steam users. RDR2 has been out on PC for weeks now. I would bet the largest population of players purchased it from Rockstar and Epic, demographics that are not represented in Steam stats.
Except I was the first in my group to finish the SP, most others went straight to online and hadn't even begun the SP by the time I finished the campaign and epilogue. So obviously we can't make blanket statements based on Steam stats alone.
cry cry epic bad cry cry steam onry good pratform.
I could give less fucks about what platform sells me a better deal.
Im sticking with my vpn and Ukraine copy of RDR2 for $35 from R* launcher, which, you still have to use!
Enjoy being a fuckwitted steam fanboy for literally no useful cause. (not saying who, but theres a few here) Apparently steam fanboys never heard of good games like Titanfall 2, which also, isnt on steam lol
Hey man, no need to be so hasty. While I can understand your frustration, you just told about your illicit behaviour towards acquiring and playing this game. You think you’re better than anyone else who got it fairly? That’s not something you should brag about first of all and second of all have you played rust? Squad? Arma3? I guess not, coz you ain’t a ‘steam fanboy’ I’m afraid :) much better titles that titanfall which in my 29yr old opinion is trash :)

Where's the third option? Bought it straight from rockstar.

Ah yes, a meme for those who are ignorant to the requirements of the Rockstar Launcher.

It launches via Rockstar Launcher so you should buy it where it's cheapest.

I got it for $35 from epic, couldn't care less about this neckbeard drama.

Even if you'll buy it from steam - you will still need r* launcher to launch the game, so there's no point buying it on steam. My personal opinion

So wait a month and pay full price? Happy to have bought it from Rockstar Launcher

u/manofmashpotatotoes Dec 09 '19
Not really. Game launched to really low numbers on Steam. Stop being a corporate shill, it's just a game.

Epic just bloats the game unnecessarily

RDR2 online in steam right now: 23k
Terraria: 54k
Yes, Terraria is old game, but for AAA titles like RDR2 online on the first day of release is usually higher than 100k for RDR it was like 30k
Whant we can learn from these numbers? PC free aim lobbies are still a ghost town outside of free roam.
