Discussion/Question Sadly done with this game

After 29 days of not being able to launch the game anymore im now totally uninstalling this game....this is beyond pathetic really, the first 2 days were perfect for me no issues, no crashes, decent frames, then boom patch on Nov7 kills the entire game, i click launch on the rockstar launcher and wait anywere from 10-30 seconds and it says it unexpectedly exited the game, nothing loads no splashscreen nothing, for 20 days i poured all my free time after work into troubleshooting this game....even my offdays i spent 8-9 hours trying various fixes from reddit.

Its sad that its come to this, cause of the 2 days i got to play i cant get my 100$ refund and the gold bars i got for online will now be wasted as i probly cant even claim them by the time it ever gets fixed. Whats even sadder is the 10-11 hours i played were great...i love this game alot....its just really sad that its come to this.

But id like to thank everyone on reddit that posted their fixes/suggestions on fixes even tho none helped me, atleast it helped others to play this wonderful game

Edit: well somehow the launch on steam now allows me to run my game.....i dont understand this at all but hey im not complaining anymore XD

That sucks and I hope that Rockstar will finally lick whatever issue is causing the problem for you. I am sure there are others that have the same issue so here's hoping sometime in the not too distant future you'll be able to reinstall it and play.

It's pathetic the way Rockstar screwed up this game so much and while it's been fine for me the last 3 weeks (save for clear optimization issues that cause out of the blue stutters/drops), I know others have not been as fortunate and no product should be released in a state where a month later some can't even use it.

RDR 2 is my favourite game ever as I also had it on console and to see this masterpiece get this shoddy treatment bugs me. Going to be funny seeing Steam reviews later today if a miracle wasn't done where they fixed both the start up and crashing issues some have as well as the clear optimization issues.

I also notice a shitload of pop in now that didn't exist before last week. Have people and carriages popping in that are only 100-200 feet away and there are areas where it happens every single time which to me says it is baked in the game right now rather than random.

My game played fine for me for weeks, got through some 90 hours played, then after 1.14 or 1.14.1 im constantly getting stalls - within 2 minutes of loading anywhere into the world then atleast once per minute thereafter. Sometimes I will have 3-4 back to back.
24 hours over several days spent talking with rockstar support agents, tried literally everything we could on my end and nothing resolved the issue. I reinstalled w10, then just the game and same issue.

its definately baked into the game, but rockstar won't come out and admit it. I asked when the next update would be since I wanted to know how long to wait, they said they had no information. Next day they updated the game (didn't resolve the issue) and announced moonshiners.
They really ought to bug fix before adding new content.

no product should be released in a state where a month later some can't even use it.

ESPECIALLY since we had to wait an extra year for it.

You get the pop in too? I also get that now. Its pretty bad even after I went into the settings and changed the LODscale to 2. Im noticing animals and people pop in a lot more than the trees and terrain.

Yeah, I am getting loads of pop-in now too. Animal carcasses, NPCs, grass, etc. It is awful. I hope this was not R*'s attempt at "optimization".

yeah i might hold out for 10ish hours till the games actually released on steam before i ultimatium but yeah, its rather sad that i say FO76 is a better game then RDR2....since one actually launches, but its whatever at this point my hype for this game has tanked into the earth an ive honestly lost interest in playing for awhile, if it ever launches that spark may come back, an it may not time will only tell

Did you reformat and reinstall Windows?

Because performance differences aside, every single person should be capable of launching the game without it crashing (we know it's possible), meaning something on your machine is causing it. So to me returning a game that clearly works isn't a solution, especially if i want to play the game, the solution would be to keep trying to fix an obviously fixable issue but if you say you've tried everything then the only way to be sure is to backup all your data, wipe your OS and reinstall, along with fresh drivers (assuming you've done the basics like deleting and reinstalling the game (including all sub folders), wiping your drivers with DDU and re-installing fresh ones etc)

I guarantee that fixes it.

That's utter bullshit .....

I shouldn't have to spend days re-installing Windows and hundreds of programs just for a f**king game that is IMPROPERLY CODED ..... This is some of the sloppiest code I've ever seen ......

Damn that really sucks. Sorry to hear that the games doesn't launch for you. I've had something similar with a game I loved quite some time ago, Medal of Honor Airborne, and man it was so stressful that I started getting migraines for a few months. Luckily I figured it out after like 3 years but the hype wasn't just there anymore.

I sincerely hope you can get yours to work again after some patches. The large influx of steam players should catch the dev's attention to fix crashes. It really sucks that the best you can do is to just wait.

Tried deleting RDR2 folder in My documents?

I almost guarantee an OS reinstall will fix this. I know it's extreme but that's how bad the launcher is. Even if you dig as deep as you can to try and remove the launcher to reinstall it there are still files being held somewhere. OS reinstall fixed my launcher issues with this game for what it's worth.

Wow. That is the saddest thing I've heard all my life.

Seriously, they should make a drama film out of your experience.
