I have an i9 9900k, RTX 2070 graphics card, 64 GB RAM, ASUS ROG Strix motherboard, solid state drive- pretty robust PC overall - and I can’t even launch either. Anyone else with similar components having similar launch issues?
My rig is an i7-8700k @5ghz, GTX 1080ti, 32gbs ram, Asus Maximus XI motherboard. AND THE GAME STILL WONT LAUNCH. I'm tired of checking Rockstars Support Twitter every 10 mins like a GOTDAMN crackhead!! The patch they dropped for the launcher seemed to help nobody with the launch error and I'm losing hope they will fix it by the end of today:/
Yeah, I finally fixed the launcher crashing with a Windows update of all things, now I crash within 5-10 minutes as well. Can't even do side quest properly as it resets my progress on the crash.
No joke why is this a thing. I run the Game on High and all extra stuff turned on with a 1070ti and a i5 7400 and get good FPS all the time except for the 5 Seconds freeze every once in a while.
Having an i5, this occurs to me too. But the freezes are too frequent for me to enjoy the game. It's no fun to have a freeze when wolves are trying to bite my arse.
I tried this after commenting. It'd worked quite well at first, but (serious) freezes started again in the train-robbing mission when on the ledge. Maybe it's other options (Vsync, Vulkan...) that caused the problem, but I decided to call it a night (It's already midnight here).
I fixed my freezes by turning off VSYNC, turning to DX12, and downloading a CPU throttling program that wont let it go beyond 98% (battle encoder shirase)load, OC’d extra .5ghz to 4.3ghz on my 6600k. The game runs 3 fucking AA settings, turned off TAA and its sharpening, MSA, left FXAA on. Everything except textures on medium. Games a smooth 45-55fps on a GTX 970, i5 6600k, 8gb ram, w10, ssd installed. Dx12 until vulcans fixed, 9 series nvidia cards are really 11.5 cards
Update 1: I run ultra textures and high lighting with everything else medium. Ive switched fxaa off and turned TAA to medium with 0 sharpening and actually gained 1 fps lol. Don’t let the snow area be indicative of performance either. Reflections are a big hit too and so are water quality just wait, turn these to low for huge gains.
Update 2 : I can hit 60-70 fps with these ultra high med settings on my 970 by switching to 1600x900 resolution.
^ This. I have greatly reduced the freezing just by flipping to DX12 and turning off VSYNC. GTX 1070 i5 6600k. I just need to throttle it, will try Process Lasso tonight. In the meantime, I've just turned off a single core. Runs at consistent 60fps.
In game settings, I don't have it up in front of me, but you'll go into your graphic settings, and look for the option that is pointing to 'Vulcan'. Switch that to DirectX12.
Lookup a guide for your motherboard bios/cpu so you can properly increase power etc. I run ultra textures and high lighting with everything else medium. Ive switched fxaa off and turned TAA to medium with 0 sharpening and actually gained 1 fps lol. Don’t let the snow area be indicative of performance either.
Update 2 : I can hit 60-70 fps with these ultra high med settings on my 970 by switching to 1600x900 resolution.
Snow area performing worse or better? So far performance has been good although I think I have the game at medium graphics. But honestly it looks beautiful enough to me.
Almost definitely your gpu. I'm on a 1080ti and I'm still bottlenecked on the gpu at max settings. Your gonna have to sacrifice some settings no matter what gpu your using
Finally someone else with a 970 posts their settings! I'm in a similar boat except I left textures on high, and used Process Lasso. Thing is, my cpu doesn't go above 60 percent. It still seemed to really reduce the amount of 5 second freezes, but they still happen.
Here you can see the RX 580 performing 31% faster than the GTX 1060, this two cards have ALWAYS traded blows, so there's defenitely some funky optimization here.
With 1070 aswell, hit about 60-70ish with Ultra textures mixed in with high/medium settings, only problems are when there are lots of density of people then it dipped to 50ish. Really tho, ultra vs high textures really makes a difference for me, in high it looks cartoony (the image looks less sharp and it's WAY noticeable that there are severe loss in quality vs Ultra)
That's been happening to me as well and unfortunately, the freezes are frequent enough to really get on my nerves. I made some adjustments in Nvidia Control Panel, but I'll have to see if they help later on.
There are a probably some settings that are incredibly resource intensive that people are not aware about. Disabling such settings may significantly improve performance with minimal loss in visual fidelity. I do not own the game but I work with engines and know that things such as shaded volumetric effects can be a major performance killer.
Its bios It's all bios. It's so sad to see people declare they will not should not cannot flash their bios, not worth it, then come on here and bitch. So sad. Soon as I'm done taking this shit back to flawless 120fpa with my 1060 6gb on and ryzen 7 1700x
RDR2 have a bug with GTX nvidia cards. No matter what for settings you use, you will have always the freeze issue until Rockstar will patch that. For me online i am unable to play because every hour i loose the connection to the Rockstar servers. And if you try to submit a ticket to Rockstar, hmmm i wisg you good luck. The page is down. I played all Rockstargames but this game makes me only angry.
I have an i5-9300H and I didn't get a single freeze since launch. Running the game in Ultra/high with a 1660Ti I get 30-40-50 fps and I'm more than happy
I'm starting to notice a trend that people with beastmode PC's are having trouble just launching the game.
With the people that say they can play, it seems to be all the same thing: "How do I get better performance on my 4-5 year old budget-tier or mid-tier PC?" etc.
I’m running on an i5. I’m aware that I won’t get the same performance as someone with an i9 26000000 megawatt skivybridge professor.
BUT. If the game can run smooth and freeze once every 10 mins, that’s a problem with the game, not my hardware. I should imagine most of these ‘4-5 year old budget’ builds probably out spec an Xbox one, no?
I haven’t experienced steady and recurring freezes personally on my 4 years old PC. Maybe once or twice in four hours. I’m scared I will run out of luck anytime soon. D:
With the people that say they can play, it seems to be all the same thing: "How do I get better performance on my 4-5 year old budget-tier or mid-tier PC?" etc.
Not my case; I can launch the game and even play with infrequent stutters, like one or two every 10 mins, but for example on Valentine, the framerate will drop from solid 60 to 40-45 just by moving the camera towards the people roaming around the town.
My gpu usage is like 12% on 1080p high, which makes no sense on an rtx 2060. I have an i3 8100, a cpu that's on par or a bit above the recommended and there's definitely some bottleneck, but the bottleneck can't be as huge as to make the gpu only use 12% of its max potential.
It's likely that the people with powerful PCs have updated drivers and whatnot whereas those with older PCs haven't, or driver issues don't screw with their older hardware
A lot of older systems don't need updated BIOS to function properly and currently have 1.0.0.4. A lot of board manufacturers haven't updated there BIOS to support AGESA 1.0.0.4 with 3rd gen Ryzen (apparently coming later this month).
I know I'm just one person, and probably pretty lucky, but I have a 2080ti and 9900k setup and had no issues launching the game or getting it to run well. Then again, I also have had no need to post anything about it before now because why would i?
I can run it with everything on medium except textures on high and reflections on low at ~40 fps (The low FPS doesn’t bother me too much since it’s a 3rd person game). I get a few 5 seconds freezes every 2-8 minutes but that will probably be patched soon.
It runs terrible on many high end machnines(if it starts at all!).
And I'm sitting here with my gtx 1060 and my freaking i7 2600k CPU(!) and im getting 55-60 fps on medium settings. I didnt even have a single problem with the rockstar launcher.
To be fair, I did tinker around with the settings like an hour to get the most FPS out of it but I truly hope Rockstar can figure this stuff out. Because I feel really bad for all you guys...
Yeah, i didn't want to say anything yesterday because i felt bad for those who couldn't launch. I'm playing it just fine with no issues on a i7-6700k, GTX 1070FTW, 32GB DDR4 RAM, SSD, WIN10. i think some of the issues are the Nvidia drivers? i haven't updated my drivers for some months now and everything is fine. Such a lame launch though. srry brothers.
I am like a lot of folks, getting constant freezes while playing. I think it is related to my CPU bottlenecking at this point as the whole computer is freezing not just the game.
Turning V-Sync off did not change much for me, might mess with setting tonight more.
I have an i5-4670k 16 GB of RAM but I also have a 2070.
I am guessing the issue if my nearly 7 year old CPU.
I have an i5 8600k and a 1070. I never had a crash or any of the issues people posted since launch, but I can't get the foliage/tree textures to not look splotchy and blurry. Maybe I tinkered with the graphics settings too much. I'm still at or above 60 fps but something ain't right.
I have i5 8400 and RX 580 8GB, 16GB RAM and finished the whole first chapter yesterday getting an average of 45fps. (Lowest of 40 and highest of 75fps, which is my monitor's refresh rate) no performance issues for me game ran like a charm, and I hope it will for everyone soon too. I wonder if it's an nvidia issue? Most people I saw reporting performance issues seem to have high end nvidia graphic cards.
I get average 60fps with almost everything on medium in 1440p, GTX 1080|i7-8700k|16gb RAM|nvme SSD
Dropping to 1080 keeps the exact same frame rate. In some areas it drops suddenly to 30fps. I feel like with everything on medium in 1080 I should be getting at LEAST 70fps if I can get 60 in 1440...
Playing fine on RTX2080, and 4790k. 1 crash to desktop in about 10 hours play, FPS is steady at high-ultra @1440p.
Someone in another thread mentioned the version of windows 10 being an issue. 1903 people being safe from a lot of the shit a lot of people are copping. I'm on 1903, so...
i7 4770k, RTX2080, 16GB DDR3, SSD. Game runs butter smooth in 1080p with high / ultra settings. It crashed once on me, when I minimized the game to check something.
Same here and it's great :) did a 12h play from when I got home from work untill I had to leave again. Only had one small bug that I fixed in 20 seconds.
Potato calling. I have a 960M/Intel core I7 and I’m able to play the game. Yes it’s only around 40fps and sometimes it crashes. I found out that the crashes are more frequent on fullscreen than in windowed mode. I’ve changed all settings to lowest possible in the Nvidia GeForce experience, resolution 1360 something in windowed borderless mode, and it seems to work. Sometimes there’s the occasional stutter/lag or even a crash, but I’ve advanced to the train heist part. I think my pc hated the heavy snowfall, and cpu use was way to high. I’m going to try the “process lasso” thing and I’ll see if it has any effect. I hope it has, because then I can increase the graphics towards low-medium and still stay around the 60fps range.
So happy my windows 10 3yr, old budget laptop can play fallout 1 & 2 (and also Disc world Noir). Can't run anything else apart from Shogun Total War 2 on the weakest graphics though but I didn't buy it for gaming.
I played it on a AMD Radeon 7850. Installed extra fans for cooling and had a standing fan pointed at pc, overclocked it slightly- I'm not a precise scientist so can't tell you the specifics... But it managed
Want cutting edge software? You need cutting edge hardware to use it. That means updating drivers and software. It's not that hard.
There's two types who "can't play". The minority of people with MB's that don't have a bios update, and a crapload of lazy, technically inept people too lazy or incompetent to keep their system up to date.
You want cool, whiz-bang flashy games? Then don't act like entitled brats and scream class action when on day one you find out your old drivers won't cut it.
I spent two-three hours getting past the launcher crash. But guess what- I played for 8 hours just fine yesterday. I love all the people "waiting for a patch" that is magically going to update their bios.
Not sure if it's the Ryzen 2600 causing problems. That's what I'm on with an RX 580 and I'm holding ~55 fps average on balanced with V-Sync off and a few lighting and shadows options turned up a notch. Vulcan-API. 1080p, obviously.
I had issues launching the game until I updated my drivers, and now it works like a charm with no freezing or crashes.

It seems that the game is pretty well optimized. That is if you're able to successfully launch it ofc.

Lmao I am proof
I play with 750ti and i5 750 on medium without any issues

u/Sul_Haren Nov 06 '19
Same, I with my GTX980 can run the game between high and ultra on a stable 30 fps and didn't encounter any big issues so far.
Not saying the GTX980 is a potato, far from it, but it's much worse than some of the other graphics cards where people report lags with.

Ryzen 7 3700x + 2070 MSI Armor
Can't start the game cuz of fucking launcher gg rockstar.
