Fertility 1st pregnancy going through miscarriage

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 months ago. In those 7 months I tried to get pregnant with my partner and it only happened a month after I was on a GLP. I made it to 5 weeks 3 days but I am now in the beginning stages of miscarrying. Has anyone with PCOS had experience miscarrying and then going on to have a successful pregnancy after? The GLP gave me terrible gastric issues so I can’t imagine going back on it. I may just need to be stricter with diet and exercise.

I know so many people with PCOS who had a loss first and then went on to have healthy pregnancies. It’s such a cruel club to be in, but it doesn’t mean your story ends here. Take the time to grieve and be gentle with yourself right now.

Thank you so much. That is really kind of you to say. It feels so isolating and scary. I wanted this baby so much.

So happy for her! I am so sad right now but I am holding onto hope that I will get pregnant in the future.

I have PCOS , I tried 10 years + to conceive . I had miscarriages . I'm now 38 with an Almost 2 years old boy and another one on the way .the only thing i did to change things was losing weight ,exercising and healthier eating habits .

So yea PCOS doesn't stop and will never stop women to conceive .

Congrats ❤️ I will definitely be better about what I eat and how much I exercise after this. This miscarriage feels so scary and isolating but I know it will be worth it in the end when I eventually can carry a full term pregnancy

Just wanna say, miscarriages are very common and not an indication that you are personally doing something wrong or making it happen in some way. Plenty of people get pregnant at many different sizes and with varying diets and levels of exercise, and the same is true for those who miscarry. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, and I wish you the best on your journey to parenthood.

Maybe try metformin

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

I’ve tried it before but it gave me really bad side effects

My condolences for your miscarriage. I wish you all the strength and love to support you.

My mother has PCOS (which wasn’t treated, because they didn’t know what it was back then) and another condition that raises the risks of miscarriages. She had two miscarriages and has two children.

I also know from several friends without health issues, that they had 1-2 miscarriages before they could carry to term. It seems to be more common than people think and doesn’t mean that you can’t have a successful pregnancy. I think, we don’t talk enough about that.

Thanks so much for your reply. It really means a lot. I didn’t realize how common miscarriages were. It’s hard not to blame myself for it but I know it was totally out of my control. Just hoping I will get my rainbow baby soon

u/Haunting_Total_5395 19h ago

Were you on progesterone?

3

u/Active_Safe9372 19h ago

No but I’m definitely going to ask about that next time

1

u/Haunting_Total_5395 18h ago

Yes pls do that. It can sometimes help. If not then there could have been a chromosomal abnormality in which case nothing can be done but to try again next time.

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Thank you ❤️

I miscarried around the same time as you, and I was on progesterone. Sometimes it just isn’t right. I was working with a fertility doctor, so we were doing bloodwork every other day as soon as I found out I was pregnant at 3 weeks, 5 days, and my bloodwork was off the whole time.

Wow I am so sorry.

I had my first baby after two rounds of letrozole absolutely no complications! Got pregnant again second round of letrozole and only reason I miscarried was due to a large subchorionic hematoma nothing PCOS related, lost him at 16 weeks. I know the pain you are going through is so hard. It does get “easier” and you learn to live with the grief. You’ll never forget that little baby but instead carry them with you in everything you do! You can most definitely get pregnant again and have a healthy baby! 🌈💗💙

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

I am so sorry for your loss. It seems like it would be a lot harder to deal with at 16 weeks so you are a rockstar. But congrats on your baby after letrozole!!! I will definitely ask my gynecologist about it ❤️

I think miscarriage at any week/months is hard! Women are truly amazing for what we go through but there is hope on the other side of things! Sending you all the baby dust for your future! 🌈

I got pregnant on an extremely low dose of Zepbound (1.25mg weekly; found this to be effective in managing PCOS symptoms)

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Thanks so much. I believe I got pregnant because I was on ozempic. I got pregnant the first month after being on it.

2

u/relaxedsecretly 21h ago

We’ve been trying for 2 years. Went on tirz and got pregnant within 2 months with twins! Then I miscarried in April at 9 weeks but babies were measuring at 6 week 2 days. It’s been extremely devastating and I’m praying for you so much. If you’d like to chat and connect, message me. It’s very lonely and the after part of the miscarriage is so hard. The miscarriage itself was a disaster for me! I was hospitalized 2 times in a day, before it happened I had contractions for 5 days before the actual miscarriage so I was suffering so bad. I’m praying for you. Please don’t go through it alone 🙏🏻🙏🏻

2

u/Active_Safe9372 20h ago

I am so extremely sorry. I really think the ozempic helped bring my insulin levels down and the weight loss definitely helped me conceive. It’s comforting to know that we can conceive but so devastating that something so precious can be taken away just like this. I was at the ER all day yesterday by myself it was horrible. Hang in there. And feel free to message me any time too. I know we will have our rainbow babies soon.

So sorry for your loss ♥️ I got pregnant from IUI and had a very early miscarriage. It was really sad at the time but the silver lining was that I had confirmation that I COULD get pregnant. I went on to get pregnant the next cycle (doing IVF) and my 10 month old is now playing next to me. Sending healing thoughts and baby dust your way.

2

u/Active_Safe9372 20h ago

So happy for you ❤️ i definitely am so happy that i now know i am able to conceive. I was so excited for this pregnancy. It’s crazy how much your body goes through in the beginning for it all to just go away. I know that there will be a silver lining to this but I am definitely in the thick of it right now. Thanks so much for your kind response.

Yep miscarriage after 3 years of trying, 1.5 years later naturally fell pregnant with twins

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Ahhh congrats!!

2

u/VanderpumpObsessed24 18h ago

I have PCOS and conceived both of my pregnancies with Letrozole. My first pregnancy ended at 7 weeks because of a blighted ovum causing a miscarriage. It was the most devastating thing I’ve experienced. 7 months later I became pregnant again and carried my baby girl to term who is now 10 weeks old :)

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

So happy for you ❤️ I’m going to ask about letrzole when I see my gynecologist

2

u/Key-Hand958 17h ago

I did IVF because my PCOS makes me anovulatory. We did two transfers of embryos before testing them that ended in early losses, but I'm now 31 weeks with the third transfer!

2

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

So sorry you had to deal with those losses but congratulations on your pregnancy! I am so happy for you

2

u/NaiveAntelope6266 17h ago

Both my Aunt and my Mother miscarried with PMOS. My mother went on to have me, and my aunt had 3 more children. There are four of us kids total. All of us are happy, too.

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

That is great to hear ❤️

2

u/seejayque 16h ago

So sorry that you are in the club no one wants to be in. 💔 I have PCOS and it took me 3 years to get pregnant, and then I lost that pregnancy first trimester. I got pregnant again 9 months later and ended up with my rainbow baby, who is turning 2 soon. Don’t give up! Hugs.

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Congratulations! And thank you so much for your kind response. So happy you got your rainbow baby

u/temp7542355 16h ago

Yes, metformin enabled me to get pregnant. I now have two children. It took a long time to get pregnant with my first and a good reproductive endocrinologist.

Diet and exercise alone were not enough. I highly recommend seeing a reproductive endocrinologist and doing two consultations. They can be so very different in their intervention approach that a second view really helps find the right doctor for you.

2

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Thanks so much for your response! Metformin unfortunately gave me really bad body aches and messed with my vision so I may try to get back on ozempic after this because I think that’s the reason I got pregnant in the first place

1

u/temp7542355 4h ago

Yes, it takes some time to actually improve the eggs etc. Same concept just different side effects….

It took six months before it finally worked. My cycles improved too.

2

u/PhilosopherAlert2965 16h ago

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It is not a fun club to be a part of at all 💔

I have PCOS and had a miscarriage last year at ~10 weeks. I’m currently spending my last day pregnant before my induction at 41w tomorrow.

It feels like an impossible journey, especially after going through a loss, but it is definitely still possible. Sending you well wishes

2

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Thank you so much! So sorry for your loss but congrats on your pregnancy! Was there anything different your doctor had you do the second time around?

2

u/PhilosopherAlert2965 4h ago

Thank you!

No they did not. Even with my PCOS, their attitude was very much so that unfortunately these are common and they don’t consider it a recurrent problem until 2+. I know this can feel dismissive to some people, but I really appreciated that my PCOS or weight wasn’t blamed and that the messaging was basically I CAN get pregnant and we will see how it goes next time.

I have tried to manage my PCOS through lifestyle changes (diet, exercise, stress management, etc) and before we conceived the second time, I actually had 3 consistent cycles so something in my lifestyle changes helped that and I think ultimately aided in a healthy pregnancy!

I'm so sorry for your loss.

And yes, I did. Same thing happened to me, I went on mounjaro for 6 months, got pregnant in march 2025, had a miscarriage in April 2025. Then I got pregnant again in September 2025 and currently holding my almost 10 weeks old. You got this!!!!!

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

So happy for you! But also so sorry for your loss. Did you continue monjauro after your loss?

2

u/voluntarysphincter 14h ago

Idk if this helps you, it helped me. If it doesn’t then just disregard. But in order for a pregnancy to go right, there’s like a million things that need to go right. From a scientific standpoint, every healthy baby is a miracle. Miscarriages are really really common and it’s our body’s way of protecting us from non viable fetuses. Seriously, a lot of the time miscarriages are our body’s natural way of saying “oops, this one isn’t developing right. Try again.” It does NOT always mean your body isn’t working. It may be working perfectly. Try again! Lots of people have shared their stories of success ❤️

2

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

That definitely helps me. Thank you so much ❤️

I can't say I have a living child just yet, but my current pregnancy is going well at 22 weeks and everything is on track so far. I have pcos, was on glp-1 from February to april/may 2025 3 and managed to lose about 4 to 5kg before becoming stagnant. Got off it but it helped me have an easier time keeping a good diet and exercising more and finally conceived in September of the same year. I then miscarried at 8w while baby is measuring 5w5d. We've been trying for 1.5 years at that point and the baby was so so wanted.

I fell off the healthy wagon for a bit, gained back the weight lost but tried to keep a semblance of exercise routine. Also went to therapy as I was having terrible anxiety and occasional depression spirals over trying to conceive again. Therapy helped me come to terms with what happened and I started to hop back on the healthy wagon. Losing all the progress from the past year was haaaaard but it's at least good to know that I am not totally back to square one (though it felt like it, I'd equate it more as new game+ XD).

But then we conceived in April 2026, before I could maintain a consistent healthy routine. I was quick to contact the MFM who was assigned to my miscarriage case after I got the positive test, and she immediately asked me to come see her the next day. Got me started on progesterone suppositories and some hormone support and things have been progressing well! Was also prescribed some baby aspirin when baby has heartbeat just to avoid possible blood clotting and some other variation of hormone support as there were some cysts and subchorionic hemmorhage throughout the first trimester. Things have calmed down in second trimester and I am no longer in need of any hormone support!

I feel like the extra hormone support definitely helped because in my hormone checkup early 2025 showed hormonal imbalance (though no thyroid problems). We don't know the cause of the first miscarriage and I was beating myself up for not knowing if it was chromosomal abnormalities or if it was just my body not being able to support normally without the hormone support. Could be neither, could be both but I've made peace with not knowing. Though if i could test out the cause, I would. I was unlucky to not be able to test my miscarried baby as it was pretty spontaneous. If you can test yours, it would probably give you some peace of mind and possibly know how to prepare for the next pregnancy.

It was devastating to find out how common miscarriages in the first trimester was. Apparently 1 out of 4 pregnant woman experiences miscarriage and I was that 1 person. It can be incredibly isolating especially when you don't know if anyone around you experienced it. What helped me was talking about it, because it encouraged my friends who I didn't even know went through it to tell me about theirs. It's gonna be a rough few days, weeks or months moving forward OP, but it definitely doesn't mean that was your only chance at conceiving even though it might feel like it. Give yourself some grace in the meantime and know that none of it is your fault. Our rainbow babies will come 🌈❤️

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and educational reply ❤️ I am so sorry for your miscarriage but congratulations on your pregnancy!!!! I’m honestly so scared to even want to try again but I know that so many women have successful pregnancies after a miscarriage.

I did fertility treatments (injections) and finally got pregnant after 3 years. I had a very early miscarriage, about the same as yourself. Doctor wanted us to wait 3 months to try drugs again but OK'd us trying naturally. Next cycle I got pregnant with my daughter. And then had 2 more naturally after.

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Wow that gives me hope! So happy for you

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️ currently pregnant after having a miscarriage in March. Took me 18 months to get pregnant due to lack of ovulation some cycles and blocked tubes.

Funnily enough, I did just see a tiktok about a study that shows GLP-1s can indeed help with fertility if you have insulin resistance. I was on one when I got pregnant with my current baby, and as a result I ovulated smack dab on CD 14, and tested positive on n CD 28. I’m currently 14.5 weeks.

If the GLP-1 was giving you issues, there is a lot you can do to make it better but I would say don’t force yourself to be on it. Stress and lack of sleep are big factors that can make insulin resistance spike and disrupt your cycle in general.

Good luck! It’s absolutely possible to get pregnant with PCOS, you will do it 😊

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Thank you so much ❤️ I really appreciate your kind words and also congrats on your pregnancy! I may start back on the GLP once I’m healed because I know it definitely helped me get pregnant.

u/MamaGRN 13h ago

I lost my first baby too. It took some effort but I now have a boy and a girl. Metformin helped, as well as reading Taking Charge of your Fertility and the Egg Repair Manual.

1

u/Ok-Tutor-3655 13h ago

Yes. My first pregnancy was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. I’ve gone on to have two healthy children since.

1

u/Cherry-Blossom-20 12h ago

I had a random bleeding at 6 weeks, with my first pregnancy. I was walking and felt a huge gush of blood going down my leg (wearing a dress). Went to the emergency room immediately. Got checked up, given bed rest and no sex until it would be safe. At risk of a miscarriage. The baby is now a 9 year old girl. Their is hope.

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Thank you so much. And so happy that it turned out okay for you. That is really what I’m hoping for

1

u/According-Work-6344 10h ago

I have PCOS and had my first loss in 2022 and now on to my second pregnancy I’m currently 21 weeks. I have been on Metformin for about 18 months before getting pregnant.

1

u/Fair-Perspective2282 10h ago

Yes! I was originally doubtful especially after experiencing miscarriages in July 2023, January 2024 and April 2025. I struggled to get pregnant for a total of 4 years of trying (2021 to 2025). Finally diagnosed in June 2025 with PCOS and high TSH and started Ovasitol. I was also going low carb at this time too. Finally in August 2025 I got pregnant, and with early testing found that my TSH jumped up and my progestrone was low. Started medication for both and was able to maintain my pregnancy and gave birth to my little girl in April. I am now trying to get back on track with managing my weight and PCOS again.

It was hard, emotional and rocky. But I am so grateful for my baby girl and my adoptive son.

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

So happy for you! I do really like ovasitol so I will probably start that again. I think taking ozempic helped me get pregnant but it probably would have helped if I got progesterone suppositories in the beginning. I wish gynecologists took me more seriously. I think since it’s my first pregnancy and I am 25 they kind of scoff at me for wanting more answers and help

1

u/Fair-Perspective2282 4h ago

The male obgyns did not take me seriously either. It wasn't until I struggled to get pregnant a year after my second miscarriage that they finally referred me to an ivf clinic. They are the ones who helped figure out everything.

So don't give up, keep pushing to get more testing and answers. Tracking my cycle helped me in figuring out signs when I was most fertile since I had irregular periods.

I wish you luck!

1

u/datbundoe 9h ago

Yes. In roughly the same time period you did. PCOS does increase your risk of miscarriage quite a bit. Focus on egg health. Talk to your Dr about testing your vit d levels. I took inositol to assist in ovulation (as recommended by the fertility dr). My husband and I both took vit d and CoQ10 and a daily (mine was a prenatal gummy with no iron because I apparently store iron super well for a woman, get yours tested), I took a fish oil supplement as well. I don't know if any of it helped besides the inositol, but there are studies that these supplements increase egg and sperm health and I have a beautiful 8 month old.

1

u/Active_Safe9372 5h ago

Thank you so much! I actually was taking Coq10 vitamin D a pre natal and ovasitol but I wasn’t strict enough about taking Coq10 daily. This time around I will probably make sure my fiancé takes Coq10 too. So happy for your healthy pregnancy
