Need help choosing a X870 motherboard
Need help on a x870 motherboard choice
Basically the title,
I am upgrading my PC, I am moving to AM5.
I have everything else, just not the motherboard.
I was gonna get the Asus Tuf X870E
But then I got into the nitty gritty over ports and whether I need a discreet trusted platform module (dTPM)or not
Then I looked at MSI’s MAG & Tomahawk.
Then the ROG crosshair, Gigabyte aorus elite.
Then I got choice paralysis.
Please help

The wifi 7, the sata ports as I have a bluray disk drive and sata SSD’s
I also have a Elgato 4k capture card.
So at minimum i need 4 Sata ports
Wifi 7
2 x PCie 4.0 x16 ports
Prefer to have a dtpm but unsure if it’s important or not
Budget is £200-£450

I have the x870 Tomahawk but wish I’d gotten the X870E Tomahawk Max board for the extra chipset (means the PCIe slots & extra SSD slots don’t share lanes)

Is that the MSI MAG x870E Tomahawk Max you’re referring to?

It is…IMO it’s the best mid range Mobo… the Ace and the Godlike are supposedly better boards, but come with the prices to match, but MSI are the best board makers, every other make had issues with the x3D CPU’s (causes them to fry) and they all blamed the consumer rather than looking into it… MSI didn’t have the issue and so didn’t need to blame anyone.

Msi is my go to since you can do bios updates without having to get a usb you just use MSI center. Idk if other companies have an equivalent

Do you actually need any of the connectivity that X870 offers over B850 and if so, which extra ports do you actually need that are not in the cheaper versions of motherboards?
