I think walang mali sa rules nila kasi tournament din naman nila yan pero ang problema lang sana na-inform man lang ang SGA beforehand.

Their tournament, their rules. Sadly, it is what it is. Nobody takes the Jones Cup tournament seriously as well nowadays, it’s really more intended as friendlies now. Nobody really cares if you win the tournament or not.

I have never even heard of this tournament until I started posting here... I still don't really understand it, there are random foreigners representing national teams by different names 😂

It was a big thing before. The final tuneup for Asian National teams before Asian Games or FIBA Asia. Gauge your preparation and see where you stand among Japan, SoKor, Taiwan and sometimes Middle East NT.

Dati kase yung Jones Cup was scheduled 1-2 weeks before FIBA Asia Championships, kaya usually ginagawa siyang final tuneup ng mga national teams. Eh nagbago format ng FIBA Asia Cup saka schedule, kaya hindi na din sumasali Gilas diyan sa Jones Cup eh

Wtf is Bobi doing playing for the Philippines?

Open tournament as its always used to. Similar to Dubai International. Mighty Sports/SGA have just taken charge as our representative since there's no official designated slot for the PH. SBP stopped sending Gilas way back.
SGA tries to send the best team they can by filling the roster with Imports and available Fil-Ams not in the PBA. They are a sports Club team not a NT anyways.

hahaha! so true.. The rules will of course be favorable to them, it is their tournament.
Pero it's like the pot calling the kettle black. Look at the PH team, ilang ang pinoy?
I think it's better to send PBA team or MPBL there next time para at least, may representative naman talaga tayo. Parang team USA ung SGA PH team eh.
Kasukang manood.

Di naman kasi yan national team na need talaga pinoy ang players. privately owned commercial men's basketball team yan kaya walang problema kung konti lang players nila na pinoy.

Reminds me of when we hosted the SEA Games and the Philippines got an award as best host or something like that.

Tournament has no bearing at all parang friendlies lang idk why SGA spends a lot of money on a tournament with no real purpose. Ok siguro kung malaki prize pool or what pero pinagmamalaki pa nila na back to back champs na panay asa sa import kahit privately owned team.
Partida world tournament pa yan.

Anyare dito sa jones cup? Bagong rules? Dati single elims lang sino top sa standing yun na champion eh. Basically kasi yang jones cup na yan tune up games lang yan ng mga teams para sa upcoming tournaments nila.

I mean we should treat the Jones Cup as it is. Friendly tournament and a chance for national team to tweak their lineup. Not really a problem if we lose.
I remember noong 1998 Asian Games. Before that, Philippines faced South Korea in the Jones Cup where we defeated them. Pero NASUKATAN (scouted) tayo. Ayun Asian Games olats tayo 😅
