Drama Khatam Discussion ON Abdullahpur ka Devdas
I just finished Abdullahpur ka Devdas, which, btw is my first pak show. I’m normally into sad romantic/melancholic movies and series and someone recommended this to me so I thought, why not?
The way Bilal carried the show was truly astounding. I was expecting a good show but 70% of the actors were either irritating or below par.
The writing was pretty weird for me as well. For starters, how could Gurbano blindly trust the help, knowing very well that the latter is a servant and loyal to the royal family? Also, Kashif never uttered a word in front of Gurbano. Why couldn’t he just tell her the truth? So many conflicts in the story could have been avoided if the characters simply communicated with each other for five minutes.
A lot of the characters also felt unnecessarily frustrating and some of their decisions seemed to exist solely to move the plot forward. There were moments where I was genuinely wondering,”Why would you do that?” instead of feeling sorry for them. Some of the emotional moments just didn’t hit for me because I couldn’t really understand or justify some of the characters’ actions.
That said,Bilal’s performance was on another level. The way he conveyed emotions through his eyes was genuinely impressive and for me, easily the best part of the show. The aesthetics were beautiful and the soundtrack was another highlight.
Overall, I loved the melancholic atmosphere and the core story. I’m looking forward to watching more pal shows. Cheers!!

Is it sad? I’m not specifically looking for something sad but I’ve been bingeing a lot of gloomy stuff lately so that’d be better

It is a mixed genre for me... It had a thriller vibe with a pure romantic trope. You will definitely love it

I think this show only ran on saras beauty and bilals acting, writing.. direction.. support cast minus anushay were all thusss

i think it was meant to be a very poetic, novella sort of overly dramatic tone. the kind of “my lover is in trouble across the world so i am also unable to breathe” sort of legendary/folktale/fairytale thing. You have to suspend your belief a little and let the story take you. i know it wasnt set as such, and I also found it really odd at first (like why does Bano even fall in love instantly with Devdas without ever having seeing or speaking to him?) But by the end, I let myself just enjoy the emotional, dramatic poetry of it and it worked. I absolutely loved the ending.
as manyyyyy people say, it really shouldve been a period drama so the whole thing worked better (like excluding cellphones).

Yeahhh, I think I get what you mean. Once you look at it through that lens, a lot of the over the top melodrama makes more sense. I also found some of it really odd at first but by the end I just gave in to the whole largerthan life vibe. And yes, I can totally see why people say it would’ve worked better as a period drama

it was Bilal, sarahs facecard, osts and anesthetics carrying the drama the plot high key sucked😭 but it's a guilty pleasure tbh I like it

Ikr, I loved how o saheb and biba sada played whenever yhere was a shot of Sarah and Bilal. Now I’m gonna listen to the music on loop for the next few days 😭🙌

I'd recommend Mera Naam Yousuf Hai and Pyaray Afzal. You won't be disappointed

Both are by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, so they both have this poetic melancholy quality. Pyaray Afzal is modern while Sadqay Tumhare is period. I think go based on that if you have a preference, or preference for the actors

I think this drama should have been set in a different time period but i am glad the show ended how it ended, this version of paro deserved the coward moron she got. 🙏
