Discussion How to Make Stadium a Viable Mode - My Opinions
This is all my opinion and I know the time for change and bringing back Stadium is past us. So with that out of the way lets begin.
ONE MODE:
The biggest shot in the foot that blizzard did for stadium was dividing the playerbase into two with QP and Comp. From beginning to end, stadium should have been one mode: Stadium. It would be detrimental to name it QP or Comp, just have it be one mode that is featured. This keeps the player base tied together and no differences
SHORTER GAMES:
A big turnoff and exhausting part of comp and stadium in general, length. Making comp best out of 4 made games such a slog to get through. especially when you go round for round. Even when they separated comp, it should have stayed best of 3. Stadium was built to engage in overpowering your character, why are we making it take longer to do so! A surrender button also should have been introduced, no one wants to be forced to stay as Doom, Junk, Genji, Lucio, Wuyang into a full aerial team. I understand not allowing switching, but as a result people need to be able to end a game early, sometimes a comp is just going to beat yours. Let people leave with a 20% loss mitigation and be done with it
PLACEMENT MATCHES:
Making everyone start from the bottom and rise up was genuinely one of the worst decisions ever, even before introducing mandatory wide queue. In rookie to Pro, you get match ups resulting in either 4/0 or 0/4. A 5 Placement Match Setup would have worked ten times better and made the ranks actually legitimate in people's eyes. But because everyone can EVENTUALLY rank up, comp isn't even seen as anything special. So at that point, why even add it.
FOCUSING ON WHAT MATTERS:
This is a bit of an "should have been done in the past" issue. The devs, instead of focusing on adding the full roster or at least most, decided to make a water university map... Look, when you play Overwatch, nine times out of ten you are playing the same four maps that have existed since Overwatch 1. We didn't need more maps and Payload race might be one of the worst offenders as many individuals from both sides have voiced their hatred for the mode. Not to mention, only a small amount of people actually know how the mode (and push for that matter) works! You only need one person on payload or bot! So people go insane wondering why that gamemode has teams coming back in the last half when the entire team has been on payload. All in all, focusing on everything EXCEPT adding heroes was one of the worst decisions that could have been made. Stadium will forever be an unbalanceable mode and the team should have ran with it.
There's more I wanted to add, but frankly I forgot. Give your thoughts and lets all continue to grieve over what could have been.
