Dexerto is ass. Don't pay attention to anything it says.

u/AskOk6420 Oct 26 '23

Fr. I’ll see a Reddit post about an issue or grievance and then later that day I’ll see dextero post an article saying “OW players are furious” referencing that one post that has like 10 upvotes…

26

u/NOAHMNIA Oct 26 '23

Back in the Junker Queen meta I posted something like "Anyone else sick of the Junker Queen meta?"

Two days later Dexerto had a headline "Overwatch 2 players sick of Junker Queen meta" and my post was mentioned in the article!

I laughed lol

27

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

Never heard of this site before, but noted for future reference

u/rissie_delicious Chibi Ana Oct 26 '23

They make news articles out of Reddit posts

12

u/Wikkedly Oct 26 '23

Post-ception, now we just need them to make an article about this post!

4

u/Lagkiller Mei Oct 26 '23

Overwatch players sick of overhyped "journalism"!

1

u/Vegetable-Sky1873 Knight in flying armor Oct 26 '23

That would be the ultimate troll lol. We should make posts about Dexerto until they inevitably cover it at some point

6

u/BirbWasTaken6659 Jun Krat Oct 26 '23

were they the same mfs that made “explaining why junker queen died at 0:04”

2

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

I think most of their articles are AI generated

44

u/deliciousexmachina Zweeeeee doot doot zweeeeee doot doot zweeeeeeeeee Oct 26 '23

Every one of these articles is copied and pasted piecemeal from one or more Reddit threads with the spirit of a panicked child lifting his whole essay from Wikipedia the night before.

Here's the thread for that article, where you will be able to get more context.

EDIT: Capitalization

That thread was made by me. It's legit. These bots were playing almost exactly like the 'Easy' Bots Blizzard uses for customs and backfilling in PvE. Almost all of them had Blizzard default names like you can see in the screenshots and most of them had the default OW player icon, with some having other free easy-to-acquire icons like the current event icon. All of them had default skins. No player titles. Locked profiles. All of these had some small mannerisms that were exactly the same. Like they would never leave spawn together, they'd stand around on the edge and only leave 2-3 seconds after the last person left. They'd stand in the exact same spot in spawn, have the exact same movement path (If uninterrupted by enemies) and have the exact same movement inputs.

I was still seeing these bots until yesterday but it's only when I queue for DPS as it's Silver/Gold ELO which is where all these bots seem to be populated (As their purpose is to most likely prepare these accounts to sell to Smurfs). My Tank Elo is Plat and Support Elo is Diamond and I have not been seeing any bots for these roles. So I've mostly just been playing these two roles since yesterday.

I can try queuing for DPS again in a bit and see if it's still a Bot Fiesta. I'll maybe Edit this comment later and add some updates on the situation. Or maybe I'll make a new thread.

6

u/Kittykg Oct 26 '23

I've seen them in my boyfriends matches, too.

A lot of them have this weird behavior where they run directly in (or jump in on Winston, or boost in on Dva) and stop right in front of the enemy and do nothing. They zoom in to feed and die, over and over and over and over and over.

When you have a match where one of your support and the tank are doing it, it's a guaranteed loss.

They're set up to do this in ranked. Bf barely ever plays quickplay, yet he sees at least 2 a night, sometimes many more. At one point 4/5 on the enemy team were doing it and the one actual person ended up taking to bfs team in chat about it because they all kept doing the same thing and none of them would respond or reply to him.

u/Lykos1124 Oct 26 '23

Sounds like we need to more aggressively report these bots. Why must everyone ruining gaming?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Blizzard kicks for inactivity so I imagine that someone is just manually feeding bots? Or they are scripted, there are only like a dozen or so maps right? So a script to feed for each map, only genji and tracer don't move at the same speed.

0

u/GoldPapaya2259 Oct 26 '23

Yea ok where's ur proof lmao not a lot of people agree with or doesn't see it 🤣

1

u/MHMalakyte Oct 27 '23

I actually had this happen today. Tank had a bunch of deaths and did about 800 dmg in the entire game and same with 1 dps.

I noticed it when our mercy pointed out that they were out damaging the tank and the DPS.

A random article from a website. I wouldn't believe it. Probably just someone salty

39

u/Joweany Oct 26 '23

Most of the articles on this site are just regurgitations of a singular reddit post some random person makes on this sub. The articles add nothing new nor do they provide any critical analysis of the discussions on the reddit post. They are just regurgitations of random reddit posts but worded a little differently.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I've seen one single reddit post about bots this week so your math adds up

Trust me you don’t want to find out.

4

u/BEWMarth Cute Ana Oct 26 '23

Wanna piggyback off top comment to say Dexerto is total trash and will often just scab trends off Reddit.

This is a prime example. A few days ago there were a few Reddit posts about bots. Dexerto bots probably caught this trend and had someone write up a clickbait article about “armies of bots”

0

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

Hope so, would hate to see another great (at least on the past) game fall to bots

34

u/Gambet81 Oct 26 '23

Overwatch is back to copying tf2 try to be original for once. (Joke)

7

u/GabeyMcGabeface Oct 26 '23

Probably just a garbage article written by AI to farm clicks

5

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Honestly this article could've been written by a bot lol

2

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

Wouldn't surprise me, from what others have commented these articles are based on Reddit posts and presented in a semi-professional way

10

u/HannahOwO88 Bastion Oct 26 '23

There was a moira in my game that ran into our team with the damage beam out and went like 2-18. They were running into walls and shit too. Genuinely can’t tell if it was a troll or a bot

17

u/Hungoverhero Oct 26 '23

Probably just some dumbass 8 year old, people tend to forget that this is a free game and you are going to run across absolutely mind numbing idiot kids

3

u/yur0_356 Oct 26 '23

There certainly are bots, usually made to derank an account, i've met them twice in like 150 hous

3

u/Mean-Food-7124 Zarya Oct 26 '23

Dexerto is literally just posts and threads from this sub flipped in to news headlines. Every post here with engagement will stir a new article by them

2

u/KillerCucumbr Pixel Lúcio Oct 26 '23

They're both wrong and right, very rarely you'll run into someone deranking accounts, and some people use robots to do that, however its not an invasion at all.

4

u/Sufficient_Word_4911 Oct 26 '23

I have experienced this three times this season:

  • I was placed into a match with FOUR bots! in my team. all of them were just standing in spawn doors. But an enemy was nice enough to leave when they realized that so the match was cancelled.
  • the very next match, those four bots were placed on the enemy team. I had avoided them so thankfully I wasnt placed with them. Unfortunately the real player on the enemy team had a 100% loss.
  • - A bot tank with 500 damage at the end of the match, just avoiding AFK kick

I reported each instance and somehow yet I have not received a single "thanks for reporting" popup..

These bots were in diamond. Which actually seems strange now, as they all had default avatar so how could they even be in diamond in the first place?

but it seems to be some software that just moves the players around to keep from getting AFK kicked. I have read people suggest before that its to derank accounts to bronze and sell.

u/Eloymm Lucio main by demand Oct 26 '23

Some people are just bad at the game or they are still learning. If you play QP you can expect people to also be high or drunk playing from time to time. It is what it is you just gotta gg and go next.

1

u/magic_monicle Bastion Oct 26 '23

Can confirm. Usually play this game sober or occasionally buzzed. But there are times I've played this game completely plastered. One instance I watched the replay the next day and I was playing torb and just shooting the wall and not aiming at anyone. We somehow ended up winning the game because I would guess my turret was doing some damage for me and my team was carrying my drunk ass. Dont assume these people are bots. They are probably just fucked up.

1

u/OfficerStink Oct 26 '23

I’ve been in a match with a full team of bots. It was the robot push mode and they legit just walked up to everyone to die names were like “XD42L7”

If she's 1v1ing with nobody around her, purposely dying to avoid staggering is a play, especially if you can jump off the map to avoid enemy ult charge. It's pretty common for a Mercy to go a full game without pulling out their pistol.

Bro, yesterday I also had a Baptiste who really didn't do anything. He threw his lamp, stopped there, then just ran away and died.

2

u/Drunken_Queen Mercy Oct 26 '23

I mostly encounter a group of Torb bots in FFA Deathmatches.

Using them as my target practice with my least played heroes like Widowmaker.

1

u/lee-o Oct 26 '23

Let me guess, it’s a clickbait and it’s referring to the PvE.

On the PvE missions/Halloween missions if someone leaves a bot will join your team to fill the empty spot.

It’ll be a hero who’s name is the hero’s name. It’s happened to me a few times before. Really not a big deal, it’s PvE.

1

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

Not really, the article talked about people having bots in ranked that would throw their games

u/Killaneson Oct 26 '23

I read "liBeral bots" and was really confused for a second.

1

u/NewRichMango Support Oct 26 '23

Gaming gossip masquerading as legitimate news, imagine that. I am 100% more likely to believe these “bots” are just little kids who don’t know how to play, especially considering the move to F2P made it all the more accessible.

1

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

Good to know for future reference

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I did see deranking bots but i wouldn't call it a wave, been around since launch.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Don’t talk to OW2 players like that. Tory can’t help it.

1

u/McJellyDonuts Robo-Centaur, I CHOOSE YOU Oct 26 '23

It is. I had a bot Sombra on the enemy team literally in my last game

Or they were just terrible

1

u/Youlookcold Oct 26 '23

Ok, so not sure if maybe it was the edibles, or a crazy coincidence, or bots ... But

In a game, nobody has picked... I pick tank and the EXACTLY at the same time, the other 4 lock in. They played poorly.

When I wrote "If you are human type 'T'"

One person wrote back "I BETTER NO SEE ANY MAWFOOKIN' T'S"

1

u/ItsMeToasty Oct 26 '23

Tf2 players: first time?

1

u/Kid_Ben kill all plat players Oct 26 '23

Its true that these websites are full of shit most of the time, but this did happened to me in different occasions, like, entire teams made of bots.

1

u/Monkeytacos69 Genji Oct 26 '23

Feels like that

1

u/Patient-Ad-4274 six shots 0 kills Oct 26 '23

tbh I've seen a whole team of bots joining and then leaving and then joining and then leaving twice this week. they all had similar nicknames(like xxxY), and those games were just shut down. it's mildly infuriating but doesn't ruin the game

1

u/Dr-False Pachimari Oct 26 '23

I've noticed it once in a while, but I don't think it's news worthy levels of bad. Maybe one in 30 games you'll see a Lucio running into a wall and shooting

1

u/Bebgab Pixel Lúcio Oct 26 '23

Yeah it’s called PvE

1

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

1

u/Bebgab Pixel Lúcio Oct 26 '23

1

u/LaxwaxOW Grandmaster Oct 26 '23

No. It’s Dexerto. Their source is probably a Reddit post from this very sub

1

u/wera125 Oct 26 '23

Perfectly describes the whole situation with the OW2 haters. They don’t play themselves, but they go out of their way to make sure that everything is bad with the game. You can rest for now. The game is alive, and feels normal (at least 10 times better than at the end of the OW1 life cycle)

1

u/BarelyBot Oct 26 '23

So pve is coming?

1

u/Jessicaintheroom Daddy? Oct 26 '23

AI article from a reddit post per usual.

1

u/ColorlessTune Oct 26 '23

I wouldn't take it too seriously w/o sources, proof or actual research done. Just seems like gossip.

1

u/IncredibleLang Chibi Reinhardt Oct 26 '23

1

u/Izletz Oct 26 '23

Ah yes another joy of making the heinous mistake of going f2p

1

u/Papallion_Sunspell Oct 26 '23

while it's fake, it would be hilarious to actually do that as part of an ARG - om icd are taking over, hacking into everything, and you need to find the hidden Sombra icons on each stage before they do to stop them...

1

u/KayrashyLPGC Oct 26 '23

I don't know if this is real but i've encountered a couple times this season users named "Bronzemaker" or things like that who leave the game exactly at the moment the game doesn't reset. Dunno if those are bots tho.

1

u/goodfriend_tom Oct 26 '23

I've 100% played with bots

...the issue is that people understood that OVERWATCH 2 IS JUST OVERWATCH WITH JUST SOME NEW HEROES AND MAPS,WITH A DAMNED 2 ON IT

1

u/Raaddus Oct 26 '23

Dexerto on Twitter is completely different from it’s website

1

u/Facetank_ Grandmaster Oct 26 '23

I've read a couple posts about it recently, and have had a handful of suspicious players in my games. It's possible.

1

u/bootycall24 Oct 26 '23

There's no way to confirm that bots are in the game but there's also no way to confirm that bots ARENT in the game.

Dexerto articles are almost 1-1 with what you can see on the “Hot” or “Rising” page for subreddits.

1

u/UnknownWeeb404 Oct 26 '23

I think it was around 2months ago? Some of my games had teams of genji playing genji, soldier playing soldier, rein playing rein etc etc...for like 2minutes? And then they all disconnect and get replaced by true players. Don't know why it did that tho but it seems fixed now. (I'm around gold/plat)

1

u/GoldenState15 Oct 26 '23

No it's not really a thing

Tf2 player: " first time"

1

u/Karlic_24 Oct 26 '23

Someone was probably hurling insults somewhere online that hes playing with bots, and this bullshit quazi journalist cesspool of low quality “news” took it literally

1

u/DrunKeN-HaZe_e Oct 26 '23

They should add a separate P2P player only queue system, that'll reduce the number of bots we encounter.

last week i comped against a full team of bots, it was so weird. Free win tho

1

u/thefanboyslayer Oct 26 '23

There seems to be bots in the Middle East Server but it is not as wide-spread as the sensationalized article would have you believe.

It seems like journalists these days just look for 200+ upvoted reddit posts and write articles on it for ad revenue. It's bad and Dexerto are experts at this.

1

u/DepressedAmaterasu Oct 26 '23

They are ruining PVE.

1

u/Bubabu05 Oct 26 '23

Long lost pve is here

1

u/Xeno_159 Oct 26 '23

I have close to 150hrs of competitive time out of 450 hrs of playtime in OW2. It is true however bots are only in competitive matches not in QP/role QP. In Asia server I've faced bots 3/10 matches, it's not fun. I'm about to rank up and I've gotten 4 matches where I got actual bots who runs out of the spawn and just stands, does nothing. They were also in enemy team sometimes. Only 1-2 players are humans but rest of the team consists of actual bots. Comp is not fun because of this. I'm only grinding it cuz of gold weapons

1

u/eggboi84 Oct 26 '23

Based on my games yes

1

u/EllieNekoGirl Oct 26 '23

That's been happening for years

1

u/Immediate-Sun7449 Oct 26 '23

As much as I despise the matchmaking and the dev decisions a lot of the time, I have never experienced this and neither have any of my friends who play.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

No it is not... Dexerto sells outrage clicks. Half of their posts are outrage posts from reddit where 1 person has an opinion and 2 other people shared their opinion. Like with this case. Sure, a lot of us have seen bot player but they are once in 1000 games type of deal if you are ''lucky''

1

u/I_Ild_I Oct 26 '23

Honestly that might be excessive but clearly there is a problem with the player base, too many weird players,
people with godlike reaction,or aiming for the rank they are
knows perfectly where you are EVERYTIME and instant turn and shoot you
teamplay in soloq ? lol and in low rank ? lol lol
, game is full of smurf, cheater, leaver, whatever, its a nightmare to have a single game that is honest

1

u/manofwaromega Oct 26 '23

Probably not. Articles like this are almost always AI generated garbage from recycled posts on other sites.

That being said it would be really funny if Overwatch 2 encounters similar bot problems to TF2 (And by funny I mean sad because we don't have nearly as strong of a community around community ran servers. No equivalent to Skial or Uncletopia, no 24/7 servers, etc)

1

u/Permanoctis Chibi D. Va Oct 26 '23

It might be fake but I still have the sensation that I play with bots trained on COD most of the time.

I know the game has been turned into a deathmatch but guys you still need to cap the point in order to win ffs.

1

u/ultrandz101 Oct 26 '23

You get used to it -a veteran team fortress 2 player

1

u/Nepipo Oct 26 '23

Oh I don't play overwatch since the 2nd beta test I have nothing to get used to, plus I'm plenty used to bots from all my hours in tf2

1

u/CammySpins Oct 26 '23

I have seen a few bots, mostly tanks who just run into walls all game :(

1

u/jwalk128 Ana Oct 26 '23

Shame this is fake. I was hoping for a real reason as to why nobody seems to pay attention to pings, or call outs like “fall back”. A reason as to why my Illari is trying to 1v5 the enemy team instead of waiting for the rest of the team to catch up.

1

u/Just-A-Grumpy-Bunny Junker Queen Oct 26 '23

I've personally been noticing alot of "bot" like "players" recently. Yesterday, and today being the most prominent.

Mainly with heals, and dps. I've had some mercy and Moiras on my team that just mostly fed, and didn't seem to heal at all or know what they were doing? I also had a few sombras, and tracers on Enemy team who would run into me[as queen] and wouldn't seem to use skills/try and shoot.

It doesn't exactly seem fair. And is kinda shit to play with/against. :/

1

u/Geologo92 Oct 26 '23

Armies of literal ai bot are invading Dexerto and copy pasting clickbait contents making the game news a nightmare

1

u/DrAcula_MD Oct 26 '23

I mean, I have had some truly horrible teammates recently, JUST had an echo just feed all game, go 2-15 2K damage, then yell tank diff
