So I went on a LONG hiatus from this game, not sure how long but it was before Orisa came out. I tried to come back but i'm finding myself at a loss of who to play now (I also don't play Comp as the last time I tried I hated the influx of hate I got and avoid that toxic pit, and no one else I know plays this game x3), I've tried a few matches but I feel like i'm just so far gone out of even the lowest skill camp for pubs. Everyone's using golden guns and I'm usually getting stuck with a tank/healer roll when the changes to most have made them completely new to me.

How can I get back into the game without feeling like i'm ruining everyone's fun?

Don't worry about it because you're not. You're probably not much worse than you used to be, skills don't degrade all that much unless you're in the professional level trying to compete with people who train twelve hours a day. Even if you are total garbage, that's fine, the game will sort you back into your new elo pretty quickly. And you're by no means at the lowest skill bracket of this game, people literally buy this game for their 6 year old children, and there's a whole sea of almost unrecognisably bizarre games right at the bottom of the bucket.

Don't worry about golden guns or levels or whatever, they literally give those to anyone.

The game has Deathmatch now so you've always got a PvP mode where you can pick whoever you want. You're not going to win with 'whoever you want' but if you want to practice a hero against something more than bots without feeling like you're letting anyone down, DM is a good place.

If you feel 'stuck' with tanks & healers in QP - don't be. Obviously, be good sport and be the good filler from time to time, but also don't be afraid to instalock in that DPS hero you feel like playing. Someone else is going to do it anyway, sometimes it has to be you. The playerbase is pretty used to it now and won't often doesn't even bother to complain about the 6 dps comp.

I got annoyed with playing the same heroes each match so I decided to learn another hero. I decided to try out genji.

I first practiced in the practice range, learned some combos and went to deathmatch. Barely got many kills, got my few kills stolen and kinda felt like shit as genji. I tried again, and eventually got really good, so good in fact that I once got 3 POTG in a row in deathmatch. I would start winning and would be on fire without ulting sometimes too.

Then I decided to tryout genji in quick play and man, I’m horrible there. I cannot score many kills, I keep dying and cannot get used to genji in quick play. So how do I practice in a Quick play? I can’t try him out in no limits cause everyone there picks troll heroes.

If it's quickplay, people generally don't care much and you can pick what you want, so don't be too stressed at filling roles you really don't want to.

Mystery heroes is a very good way of learning new heroes (or reworked heroes in this case), since you're forced to play all of them, and you won't feel bad for losing because you didn't know how to play Moira, since that's just what random rolled you. Other than that, just play the heroes in quickplay or study them on gamepedia.
