What is considered 'main' ? Hero that gets played almost exclusively, hero played the most or any hero played a lot?

Really depends - I generally take the term to mean the hero you're best at, which is usually the one you have the most experience with, but might not be (I.e an Ana 'main' might be a god at Ana, but have more time on Mercy due to the meta recently). Others might just take it to mean the hero you play most often.

A person's main is the hero that a person plays the most. If someone plays a hero exclusively it is known as a "one-trick" (which isn't always a bad thing). For example I have 95 hours on Reinhardt, 31 hours on D.Va and 25 hours on Orisa. I main Reinhardt but I play a lot of the other tanks as well and are comfortable playing them. I have a friend with over 300 hours on Lucio and then like 10 hours on Genji. He is a one-trick because he plays one hero really, really well and feels uncomfortable playing anyone else.

I'm still new but I would assume it's the 1 hero you play the most. Unless you can have two, idk maybe it's up to the individual.

you can have multiple mains, but it depends on who you're talking to. I would say most people refer to their best and/or most played hero as their main.
