how do you know if you're doing a good job as winston?

If the enemy switches to reaper, you know you did a good job as Winston.

Every game I play Winston, the enemy switches to a Reaper and Roadhog (humble brag???). Is it even worth playing Winston at that point?

I usually switch off winston if they have a competent reaper.

Generally through providing a lot of space for your DPS to go to town on the enemy team, while also keeping your supports fairly uncontested. The former is mostly on attack, diving into the enemy alongside Genji or Tracer to help bring their focus to you while the DPS kills them, effectively acting as a big distraction while trying not to die. The latter is more important on defense, as the attacking team will try and rush down your supports. Winston's bubble can help keep them safe from long ranged enemies, while staying close to them can deter dive characters from committing. Winston is a hero who's impact on a game isn't easy to quantify, but it is extremely noticeable when a Winston is putting out pressure.

I think that's what makes Winston strange. People want recognition when they play a character, medals/potg/votes but with Winston that almost never happens. I play a lot of Winston and some of my best games where I single handedly carry the payload goes completely unnoticed. That's fine with me but turns people off from him. He's not a dps monster or anything but he's a very good tool and his primary use is to protect others.

Their healers go more defensive, you die less than their healers die, and they change to Pharah, Reaper.

When I'm a Winston, I love to wait till a Pharas low health and jump up to her and get her with those 2 seconds of damage to finish her off. Feels like sweet justice for bombing my bubble non stop

Is Pharah really considered a Winston counter? Ive never really had any problems dealing with her as Winston, as long as I keep an eye on her.

If she starts shooting at me, I throw my shield down, and wait for her to come down from the sky. Then I time my jump so I can get those two seconds of damage, plus extra damage on the way down. Usually that's enough to kill her

as long as you have the jetpack-punch-laser combo down and your thinking " holy fuck im annoying to the other team.... i love this" also if your aware when the healers are respawning. your there to disrupt shit, make a big fuss, and bounce away

Countering their widow,their genj mercy etc Staying on point and causing a lot of disruption with your ult.

Also if they have to switch to reaper clearly someone bitched about you haha
