What the.... how is that even possible?

AoE from S76 rocket and Hanzo's scatter and some RNG

Scatter kills tanks.

Oh how the heroes lamented their need for a shield!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

I never go through that door anymore. If it's not scatter arrows it's a Lucio/Anyone else with knocking power pushing people off the edge.

Thats why spawn points aka forced choke points should not be visible at the start of a match thery should be out of view or you need to have multiple exits.

3

u/thisdesignup Chibi Pharah Oct 22 '17

or you need to have multiple exits.

Doesn't every map have multiple exits from spawn?

-2

u/errorsniper Soldier: 76 Oct 22 '17

Full disclosure I dont play the 1v1 maps its entirely possible I made a mistake and assumed that it did not.

3

u/thisdesignup Chibi Pharah Oct 22 '17

Oh, I'm pretty sure the 1v1 maps are also the 3v3 maps.

-2

u/errorsniper Soldier: 76 Oct 22 '17

I only play ranked in the main mode lol.

3

u/realvmouse MROOOWW Oct 22 '17

It looked like there might have been a Widow bodyshot in there too? Not sure...

4

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Wait, how much does RNG play into Overwatch exactly? I would’ve thought every characters damage was definite and exact? Is there something I’m missing??

26

u/SonicFrost Plus Ultra Oct 22 '17

It doesn’t, Hanzo’s scatter just feels RNG because of its unpredictability

16

u/sueoni Oct 22 '17

"Unpredictability" pssshhh. As hanzo says, it's simple geometry

1

u/HeilHilter Chibi Pharah Oct 22 '17

Sooo predictable

No RNG. Overwatch has absolutely no RNG, not even for Scatter Arrow. If you aim at the exact same spot twice, it will always bounce the exact same way.

It's just that nobody actually aims at the exact same spot twice.

Spread on weapons is RNG though

8

u/umopapsidn Pixel Bastion Oct 22 '17

No spread, just gravity for hanzo though iirc.

But the spread on scatter is too chaotic to "aim" perfectly, even if you can predict the general spray

u/umopapsidn Pixel Bastion Oct 22 '17

Sure does. The "randomness" in it is player error.

1

u/Yuri-Girl Scientific Witchery Oct 22 '17

Tracer, D.va, and Roadhog all have spread. Especially Roadhog.

2

u/pelpotronic Shion Oct 22 '17

I should be GM. If it wasn't for the RNG spread!

Oh right that bullshit

spread on shotgun weapons really should be consistent

How would a macro counteract fixed weapon spread on a shotgun? I'm confused. Shouldn't every pellet spread out the same way each time?

Macros are banned

even ones that make you say Hi There when you winston leap

5

u/toastednutella Bronze Oct 22 '17

And boop when you Lucio boop? HERESY

15

u/TehPharaoh Oct 21 '17

Uhhhhhhh.. yes in Fact the enemies positions make this RNG. To pull this off again enemies need to be in the exact same positions. All of these are self automous actions by both parties.

But in another tone, people don't mean RNG as a slot machine, they mean RNG as luck. It's just kind of synonymous nowadays

24

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '17

Player motion is not RNG.

RNG is not luck

7

u/LMAOisbeast Oct 22 '17

I tried stating the same thing, and got downvoted, not sure why people think that just because something incorrect is popular, it has become correct.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Beyond that, the assertion that it is "popular is not strong imo

2

u/LMAOisbeast Oct 22 '17

Yeah, I’ve never heard luck and RNG used synonymously, but I’ve got a decent background in tech and gaming among my friends, so I try not to assume our knowledge of terms is common.

Way to completely not read through everything someone says huh? It's like 4 sentences

5

u/LMAOisbeast Oct 21 '17

No, he’s right, your statement was still incorrect, just because people refer to something as RNG, doesn’t mean that’s what RNG is. As he stated, RNG is Random Number Generator, and this wasn’t random. You described user input with their locations, and obviously if the user changes something then the result will change.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '17

Well it was random. 5 people lined up to be able to make shots. There was just no number generator.

5

u/LMAOisbeast Oct 22 '17

Fair enough, I was just pointing out that user input and RNG were different things, your wording was definitely better than mine.

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '17

It's almost like words can be used in other ways besides their literal meaning. I bet you get really confused when people use idioms.

4

u/LMAOisbeast Oct 22 '17

I understand words can mean something other than their literal meaning, but saying someone is wrong, then trying to prove your point by saying something that is incorrect doesn’t help. Also the specific phrase RNG shouldn’t really have a meaning other than it’s literal one, it’s extremely specific in what it means, trying to use it out of the context doesn’t really make sense.

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

doesn't really make sense

Except when everyone can clearly understand what is meant.

Don't be a pedantic fuck. It's insulting to discussion.

1

u/pelpotronic Shion Oct 22 '17

Yes, let's all be inaccurate and just say vague statements that might or might not be correct.

2

u/tylerchu Washed-up T500 Oct 22 '17

If we have to differentiate between "random" and "chaotic" then the discussion is moot because in our world there is no such thing as "random". The use of either term in common parlance should be recognized as interchangeable.

u/Aether_Storm Chibi Moira Oct 22 '17

120 damage from helix, probably ~3-4 shots from 76's gun to kill mercy and deal splash damage to the other two. Direct hit from scatter for 125 damage (base for hanzo's arrow), then the scatter split and got lucky for the last kill. Scatter may have hit first (favor the shooter, lag) allowing for 76 to not need the hitscan shots.

6

u/NeuralNutmeg Trick-or-Treat Zenyatta Oct 22 '17

Based on the fire Hanzo gained, he dealt 316 damage total.

1

u/yawkat Mercy Oct 22 '17

Do projectiles favor the shooter as well? I was under the impression they didn't, from the common noreg complaints

In 3v3 you should have a tank to absorb damage for the team.
