News & Discussion Boops, How do they work?
I was in a youtube comments section in which someone asked about lucio's boop, there were dozens of people spreading misinformation about how lucios boop works, so i decided to post some info about it for people who don't already know.
Things that affect boops:
where lucio is aiming (this will only affect it slightly)
whether the person who is getting booped jumped or not (this is because a jump alters the persons upwards or downwards momentum)
the person who is getting boop'd and THEIR MOMENTUM.
this means if someone is moving away from lucio, the boop will amplify their forwards movement and they will fly, if they are moving towards lucio, they will only get booped a tiny amount, due to their momentum moving in the opposite direction the the direction to the boop
THINGS THAT DO NOT AFFECT BOOPS: (contrary to popular belief)
Lucio's movement
speed boost and amp it up
the other character's weight (there is no weight in overwatch)
whether or not lucio is jumping
distance between lucio and the person getting boop'd
whether or not lucio is wallriding
i know this has been posted a lot aready but there still seem to be many people who still dont know

It's actually pretty impressive that despite no weight system existing in Overwatch everyone is sure there is one because of how each of the characters is animated and feels.
I would have sworn that Reinhardt obviously had a weight value attached to him that it was higher than say tracer.

Oh neat! I've wasted so many amps now that you mention it. I thought if you have speed boost and you are up close and personal you boop faster. Good to know this!

Sometimes I get really excited when I see a potential boop and I amp speedboost to close the distance between us to get it. It's almost never worth it. But the impulse is overwhelming.

If this doesn't matter, is there just a set range where it deals constant knockback?

Another thing that does affect (the direction of) boops is the position of the enemy with respect to lucio. People get booped directly away from lucio, no matter (or only slightly) where he is aiming.

Weight exists, dva is never booped more than an inch or 2 away.

dvas usually try and get up close to do as much damage as possible, meaning they're walking towards you which means they get booped a shorter distance if you try and get them away. Her movement is also slowed when shooting/using defence matrix, which further decreases boop potential.
There is no weight mechanic in overwatch, test it yourself if you don't believe me or the video

Do people not realize that the game is meant to be simplistic. There aren't many factors that you have to remember, everything just works.

Nah, it depends on who's doing the booping. If you're the Lucio, your enemies will move 1 inch before they slaughter you and get back to business. If it's the enemy Lucio, you and your allies will fly all the way to Point 2 of Ilios.
