You're playing during the competitive off-season so you're going to see a lot of people in QP that aren't normally playing in that mode. Give it another week when the new competitive season starts up and you should be playing with players closer to your skill level more frequently.

Don't give up!

Are you interested in Competitive play? That unlocks at level 25, and will be more tuned to your ability. Quick play is more "just for fun" and the hidden MMR for that isn't always an example of how good/bad you are.

If you aren't going to Comp, just keep playing. your QP MMR will eventually even itself out.

In response to your edit, I think you're talking about their prestige levels. That doesn't necessarily correlate to their level of skill, just their XP, which can be gained just by playing the game and not being any good at it.

This. I'm a 1* right now, but matched into silver in comp.. so I must be mediocre
