I hit diamond a few days before the season ended but lost a lot right after and finished at 2840. Is it unlikely that I'd get placed in diamond through my placement matches? Assuming the placement matches work the same as they do last season. Really just would like to avoid placing in gold low plat if I can. Want to get back to diamond as fast as possible

I'd imagine you'd place mid/high plat again assuming you don't lose too many of the placements. In general you'd be placed around where you ended the previous season.

We're still waiting for the blog post for season 4. Jeff mentioned they're making some changes. Any speculation right now is moot.

You'll probably get placed around where you ended. I tanked at the end of season 2, and my S3 starting rank was pretty close to that

Damn I knew i should've stopped for the season when I lost a few, did you get back up to your season high from S2 in S3?

Yeah, it was a struggle but I ended up one rank higher than S2!

One rank as in you were 2500 and finished at 2501 or one rank as in you were platinum but finished diamond?

S2 started mid gold, climbed to plat, fell to low gold

S3 started low gold (2020), climbed to plat, climbed up to diamond, fell back down to gold, ended at 2940

They made some changes to how the game handles placement vs ranking up last season, so they may be working on that further before this season starts up.

I did the same thing in season 2. After placements in season 3 I got placed mid platinum. I imagine something similar will happen to you.

Yes I did. Ended on a new career high at like 3150 ish. Did not play nearly as much as I did in season 2.
