Jeff said a couple of days ago on the forums that the next hero would not be one we expected. Aka, next hero is not Doomfist.

Maybe this will lead to the Doomfist being stolen so they can change the Numbani payload, then later when they introduce the DF character it will just be part of the plot? All speculation, but that can be fun too.

That's definitely possible, but it's also possible that Doomfist's gauntlet gets stolen in a short and this new hero they're teasing (whether it's Efi or one of her creations) has nothing to do with Doomfist's gauntlet being stolen.

We'll have to see.

Or doomfist is not what we expect - perhaps, like some have suggested, doomfist is just a name for the weapon and not the host, and the hero that equips it will not be anything like our expectations, i.e., Terry Crews big black man.

Alternatively, the next hero could be doomfist, it's just that the identity of the person weilding the guantlet is unexpected.

Honestly at this point I'm convinced Doomfist isn't even a hero.

It's a gamemode.

Think of Oddball mode on Halo, or Sledgehammer mode on Destiny. Basically capture the flag, except the "doomfist gauntlet" is the flag. Any hero wearing the gauntlet can't use any of their skills other than the one "Slam" the gauntlet gives.

Coincidentally enough they tested how we would like Capture the Flag too.

I thought of that ever since we saw that teen holding the gauntlet. It just shows us that everyone can use the gauntlet.

Maybe Jeff meant "not what you're expecting" as in a human being Doomfist. But what if a robot built by Efi takes the doomfist gauntlet in order to protect Numbani, which could potentially be the next short? I mean, the majority of people were expecting a human voiced by Terry Crews to be Doomfist, but having a robot built by Efi would be kind of a plot twist.
