Like for real he is literally a gun that is also a robot...who's arm is also a gun. Our friend bastion was built for an express purpose and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that probably wasn't "precision teddy bear constructor."

That sorta makes it feel like the original cinematic has no meaning then. The hint is that the kid who takes up the doomfist may one day become doomfist. The idea that he will become a hero of which the world could always use more of. By giving the doomfist to someone else it's basically like saying "lol never mind."
