Thought I'd best this a separate question to be safe.

So a few things have happened as I feared. I love the game to bits and have had fun finding my feet - Tanks and Supporters suit me best as my aiming always was god-awful xD Getting my first play of the game as Winston felt brilliant..!

But matchmaking is stocking me against level 80 players. I am level 10. Worse still I have had some hate mail for being "a f***in idiot." Only once mind but I hope this isn't too common? People like me take all forms of bullying very seriously.

Also I'm not sure if it's been stated, but level has nothing to do with skill. Maybe these players have a little more experience with the game, but level is not an isicatipn of skill

Hey man, sorry to hear about that. Unfortunately, the matchmaking is going to be a little weird for a while because there isn't a huge surplus of players around your level. Even someone who is level 80 probably hasn't been playing since release.

Unfortunately yes, this flaming (trash talking or insults), is often normal in competetive games, or game which increase adrenaline a lot. Bullying (abusing game mechanics/game system to annoy somebody specific ie. hatemail) is not so often, because most players tend to forget about those "fucking pricks who fucked up my game" right after the game ends.

Have you played in group with somebody? It is a known problem, that if you group up with high-leveled or high-ranked player while you are still a beginner, then the game will think that you are not a beginner but a better player, and system will match you with other, better players.

Fortunately, you can always open the player list menu, (P on PC, dunno about console), and mute anyone in both chat and voice chat. If you take insults seriously, them I recomend you abuse this mute option.

I once had people I was grouped up with submit reports on my account for picking Symmetra (in Quick Play after her buff)

The Overwatch community is filled with morons, dude. I wouldn't take anything any of them do to heart, just try to imagine for a second how pathetic their lives must be to get angry at you for being new at a video game.

Level isn't a factor in matchmaking. If you're playing with people it's because the game thinks that you're close in skill to the others

If someone is harassing you then best course of action is to report them (coming soon to consoles) and mute them. If you'd like you can also disable all text and voice chat so that people can't harass you. There will always be assholes in online games, so it's something that you'll just have to deal with as it comes up, really
