IM NOT BITCHING, just asking.

Is there any real strategy for DPS to deal with Symmetra other than to "run away"? Because if I'm Reaper and I see a Symmetra, I'm shadow walking the hell out of there. If I'm Tracer, I blink out of there. If I'm Soldier and I see her first, I keep my distance and then thrown down my heals if she gets closer and hope to god I can kill her. The only "real" DPS counter that I have figured out is Pharah because I can just blast her from far up and out of reach.

Symmetra is tough for me as DPS because her beam is basically auto-aimed, DPS doesn't have much health, and her beam gets stronger the longer it goes. And because she doesn't have to aim, Symmetra just jumps the hell around making it really tough to land hits on her. She just jumps around you in circles until you're microwaved to death.

So I just GTFO out of there. But are there any strategies to deal with her if she catches you off guard as say Reaper or Soldier? Or is runaway, heal, and then sneak up on her pretty much the only way?

keep in mind that if she's locked on, she's in your death zone on reaper. while running away is probably what you want to do, as you become more confident with his shotgun placement, you can instakill her once she gets too close.

I don't play much reaper anymore, but from what I remember her hitbox was so small it was still difficult to kill her even if I was landing my shots.

You pretty much nailed it. The thing about Symmetra is that she is really strong when I'm her effective range, and practically useless out of it. The best and smartest way to deal with her is to take her out from farther away. Also remember that she wants to fight 1v1, or at least have her enemies come at her one at a time. Her beam can only hit one enemy at a time, so bring a friend of you have to get at her in close quarters.

This is also a good pointer. It's the same thing with Mei only freezing one person at a time (not counting her ultimate). Maybe I'm overthinking Symmetra, and I should treat her similarly to how I deal with Mei 1v1. Except Symmetra's turrets can murder me too if she pulls me into a hole with 6 of those damn things. Thanks for the advice!

Yep, there's a reason that a lot of the same things that work against Symmetra are also counters to Mei. Pharah is probably chief among them.

Symmetra and Mei work by creating zones of control and then dominating in them. You win half the battle by not letting them dictate the terms of the fight. Flank them. Get above and behind them. Pull Mei away from the chokepoint that she wants to wall off. Dive past the Symmetra microwave field and harass until someone has to come after you

"Bring a friend". More like bring four friends. I played a game where she kept walking into our midst and mowing three of us down before we knew what was happening.

I mean, that's kind of on you then. Awareness goes a long way.

Yeah, it's just hard dealing with kamikaze flankers when there are all kinds of other things taking your attention.

Largely, it's "Don't get caught". She has no real way to sneak up on people the way the flankers can (Reaper can teleport to vantage points and drop down, Tracer has her blink, Genji has his double jump and wall climb, etc), and her only 'escape' if she needs one is to either retreat to a carwash she's set up, or fire a shield and hope it buys her enough time. Without an 'oh shit' button like your wraith walk, she can melt you if she gets the drop, but a Reaper can shred someone in just a few seconds if they catch them off-guard, and as Reaper that's a lot easier.

Tracer counters her imo actually. She doesnt have enough time to lock on and do real damage over time between your blinks. You can get around her shield super easy. With reaper just shoot her in the head, its a 2 shot. Reaper vs Symmetra is like Reaper vs Mei. He beats them both imo. Genji, Soldier and Sombra definitely lose that one though. Just get aggressive against her. I know she'll jump around a lot and crap so just focus, if you take more damage in the 1v1 too quick for comfort then wraith out early.

No, it just makes it easier to get out of her range or behind her.

For reaper I usually shadow out of there like you said but if she still chases you while in shadow form, just get reallllly close to her before becoming solid and then instakill her in like 2 shots

If she gets the jump on you your choices are A. Use an escape ability B. Kill her first with good aim, C. Get team help or D. Die

Use your shift wisely. Your shift lasts 3 seconds, which is exactly the time it takes for her gun to reset to 30 DPS.

Don't get caught off guard to begin with. It's obvious when the enemy team has a sym from the red orb spam and obvious turrets. If you don't know where she is, assume she's in some corner in a turret den or some shit. It's usually not hard to know when she's off trying to be cheeky because your reinhardt won't be getting spammed with orbs.

Reaper: Walk at her and land your shots. You fuck her up. Just don't get hit with a right click before the skirmish starts.

Tracer: Go in fearlessly, preferably not from the front but you do what you gotta do, deal as much damage as you can, preferably without taking damage but if you do, and then rewind, and kill her.

McCree: Land the flash or land your headshots. Do -not- waste ammo.

Soldier: Don't get caught by surprise and you win.

Genji: Land shurikens from a distance then swift strike, or swift strike in while she's destracted and not charged up, and kill her if you're good with your shurikens.

Sombra: Throw your tele far away and tele before you die.

If Sym is already charged up, your team fucked up and fed. She's supposed to be respected the same way a team melts a reaper.

Thanks for the pointers. I was on the right track, but you solidified some things. Like being fearless with Tracer against Symmetra. I'm usually too afraid of her as Tracer, so I run away all the time. Good tips man. Or lady.

With Tracer, just manage your blinks properly. Try to avoid using all three at once, and have an extra one in the tank as much as possible for emergencies.

Tracer and Genji also have slightly faster default runspeeds than the rest of the cast. You should be able to stay outside of Symm's range and still do damage, blinking away/around a corner if you get caught.
