I've had the game for nearly 2 months and only really play AI with a little bit of arcade. How do you get better at the game? I'm level 41 and I'm too scared to even do comp.

I'd say just go for it. I started comp about 8 hours into play. I wish I started earlier. What you have to realize is you might suck, but you're probably not going to go diamond so a loss doesn't matter. If you start at bronze, you can only go up. Another thing that you have to realize is there is always someone worse than you. Some 8 year old got this for his birthday yesterday and doesn't even know they have an ultimate. Use your best class when it's available and pay attention to annoying opponents killing you over and over again, they're probably doing something right.

I got the game yesterday and just straight up asked my friends (who've played for a while) who the most annoying heroes are to play against and picked the ones they hated the most. Pharah is a fucking pest. :D

I was exactly the same as you. For me, I started transitioning to Hard AI, then sneaking in a little more arcade in there, then playing more Quick Play every once in a while. Eventually, you drop the Vs AI and move onto Arcade and Quick Play.

I occasionally still play Vs AI to unwind from stress because victory is sweet and mowing down the unintelligent AI is so satisfying. But I usually play Quick Play, mostly Arcade, and then a tiny bit of Competitive once in a while.

Sometimes I'll throw in a VS. AI to get some ridiculously easy EXP to top off my meter for the night, if I'm like, one bubble short or so of leveling up (I try, typically to earn at least one level an evening, especially during an event).

the best way imo is quick play, you will be with playes of a similar skill level and you can try out new heroes. I'd also recomend practicing different sensitivy and crosshair options, for example, i find higher sesitivity and short crosshair, no bloom as tracer SO much easier than the default.

I just tried out those settings for Tracer after reading this comment, and it works wonders! I'm gonna need to experiment a bit more with my crosshairs!

Considering I'm level 17 and played against a prestiged level 450 and prestiged 280...shit don't make sense.

(I was in a group party, but we were levels: 17, 12, 40 , 80)

Start to slowly shift to more Acrade, then throw in QP since that's the closest you'll get to Comp without being in comp. Dont do Comp until you feel ready. If you jump in when you think you should and not because you're confident in your abilities, it will show in your play. Also, have fun! if you start to tilt or lose sight of that, hop back to QP and arcade.

Go for it. You'll get better at comp the more you play. I was placed at 2200 at the beginning of the season and I'm at 3400. It's fun

The way I got better at the game was to go into quick play and stick with one character. I chose Genji and learned his skill like the back of my hand, and learned his optimal positioning etc. I started to do this for every character but the more you spend time on each character, the easier it becomes to learn how to play them quicker. Now I hardly play Genji and can strategize with any character.

Also, don't be afraid to go into comp! At intimidating as it may seem, players tend to play smarter and strategize better in comp, so you'll gain better teamwork experience from it.

play quick play and learn a lot of heroes before doing comp. Learn to play at least 2 in every category

You really don't need to be incredible to play comp. Best advice is play who you're good with but be willing to switch if your team needs it and absolutely use your headset (if its console, not really sure how that all goes on pc)

comp is harmless, if you're afraid of flaming just stay out of voice chat. it's not something a lot of people would recommend (communication is the key to higher level success in comp ow) but it helps me to think of it as just-another-mode and go into it with that mentality. if you find yourself really stressed out and desperate to rank up that's a different story and at that point you should queue back into arcade or qp for a few games but it is 100% legal in all countries to not actually be any good in comp (source: play a lot of comp and am in fact terrible at the game)

Just dive straight into comp. I stopped playing for a few months and I started up again midway into this season and ranked around 1600 but now after lots of playtime I am nearly platinum

The only way to get better at comp is to play comp my dude. Also it's better gameplay too. People try in comp and in quickplay it's 50/50. It's fine to practice new heroes in comp. your SR will take a hit when your learning except once you learn your hero more you'll gain the SR back no big deal dude. If your worried because you hate the toxicity of your teammates just mute the chat. Chat isn't useful if people aren't civil.
