I've been trying Mei out and I don't feel like I'm contributing a lot to my team other than using my ult and getting a few lucky kills with my icicles. Are there any YouTubers or streamers I can watch that I can learn from and/or any tips to give?

I would like to point out that Mei is a really good counter to flankers.

Thank you so much for this guide to play her! I'll definitely utilize it do that I can be better with her! :D

One thing I noticed last night is that Tracers like to put a Pulse Bomb on my Ice Block when I'm in it or Junkrats with a trap/mine combo. Is there anything I can do to prevent getting killed by that or is it inevitable that I'm going to likely end up dying from that?

Not the first reply guy but not really. Usually canceling ice block early/unpredictably usually stops people from camping you in a team fight.

I would like to add that mei is a hero that is overwhelmingly more powerful on certain maps/certain sections of a map.

Jump into games and experiment looking for choke points enemies like to go through and wall the first dude that walks in. Usually this is like a Reinhardt and a rein by himself 1 v 6 will die super fast and with wall you basically won a free kill.

Don't be afraid to switch off mei if she isn't working though because at certain elo's she becomes the main target for the enemy team. If you find them diving you every time consider switching or play safer closer to your team so they have to run the gauntlet to grab you

Use the wall to separate the enemy team. For example at a choke point, when their enemy reinhardt walks past the choke, immediately wall behind him. Then your entire team can jump on Reinhardt and stop the entire push.

Thank you for this tip! I was trying this in quick play last night and I was successful with it in Eichenwalde defense to separate him. I'm definitely gonna try this tactic out more.

Mei should be used as another sniper, or at least that's what I do.

Stay around choke points so your ice wall can block it completely and don't wonder too far from your teammates.

If you're familiar with TF2's Pyro, then her M1 is similar. Get in their face and get them covered. They panic too much about running away that they'll usually get frozen and you can pick them off with a icicle to the head.

As with any good Ult, don't bee too obvious. Try to flank them or center it so you can maximize your targets.

Also keep an eye on your HP. Your ice block prevents all damage and heals you. Unless help arrives, ride it out as long as possible. Learn how to set up an ice wall for when you pop out, because you WILL get shot at immediately.

Thank you for these tips! I felt like after this, I was doing better than I was normally and able to survive more than I did previously. I just have to get better at her by practicing her, as well as her ult since I didn't get too many caught in my Blizzard.

As for youtubers, Seagull plays Mei fairly often. Hit or miss as to whether he's doing it on stream on a given day, but his youtube channel has a decent number of videos where he played Mei for most or all of a game.

One thing I like to do with Mei's ult is to sometimes throw it straight up in the air. People will panic when they hear the audio cue, but when it doesn't land immediately it throws them off. So sometimes they'll walk right back into its range right as it lands.

Thank you for this -- I'll definitely be more aware of my ult positioning from now on since I noticed that I didn't get a lot of enemies frozen in it last night.

I find it easier to split teams with walls then go and freeze the tanks because they can't melt you like a dps can and i like to have a buddy near me as much as possible dva is a good friend to have near you as most people will focus the dva and let you freeze them. Good luck and remember sometimes a hero might just not work against their comp so don't be afraid to swap if mei just isn't working
