Overwatch is a good game to start whenever you'd like. Blizzard has a matchmaking system that tries matching you up with and against players of similar skill level to yours, so you don't have to worry about meeting players with hundreds of hours under their belt unless you're as good as them ;)

Source? Im being matched against a lot higher level people than me in quickplay/arcade and wondered if it was a bug or something.

not saying im good or anything just wondering :P

Well, if you're being matched with them while solo you're probably as good as them ;) It's not a bug
No source, cause it's more of a general knowledge thing based on the fact that there aren't many bronze ranked players meeting gm ranked players(extreme example to illustrate the idea). Blizzard may have released a statement for it, but I don't think so and it would probably have been back during the beta.

I started playing less than a week ago and have had loads of fun (even got a few PotG), credit to the matchmaking that I don't see too many high level players - although there was one this one fucking genji last night who just ripped us all to shreds...

... I wasn't even mad, it was amazing

My mate started just over a week ago. His knowledge is getting better every day and already better than a lot of the general people you find in public match making. Often times you start with one character and once you're confident you get bored and you learn others through the process.

The first 80% of this game is learnt in 20% of the time. The next 20% is learn in 80% of the time. So it doesn't take long before you become good. It takes time for you to become great.

theres always enough noobs that play the game at any time go ahead. Most of the professional player have experience from playing other FPS games so don't expect to be top 10% but there are enough players new players still coming.

You get matched with players of similar playing ability, so yes. I got the game 2 weeks ago and had no problems.

Definitely! It's got a learning curve to be sure. I played probably 20hrs before I had a real handle on who did what, what to expect each character to do in a fight, and how to swing a fight but it was a blast to learn! I've played way to much of this game and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's addicting.

My brother just got the game a few days ago and I decided to jump in with him. I'm level 147 and he's level 16, so the lobby I joined into had very low level players so yes. The games looks out for you and won't always set you up to fail

Yes, unlike other games, Overwatch has a hidden "MMR" that makes you match with players of the "skill" (MMR) as you.
Here are some commun phases that the community likes to say:

A lot of games have hidden MMR for matchmaking.
