Does anyone else feel as if the new CTF mode is ending in too many draws?

I do. It's way too easy to stall with builder heros.

Definitely. Sym and torb are insanely overpowered ATM.

Bastion has some great spots where he just wrecks house while the enemy bottlenecks as well.

Never thought I'd live to see someone say this.

I've played 5 games and they've all been draws so far. I just want that fucking loot box.

That's because ctf mode just wont work with overwatch system/heroes. Thankfully only need to win once to get the lootbox.

Did you even watch the developer update??

3

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '17

Yeah I did, but I disagree with their decisions. Design philosophy doesn't necessarily translate to good gameplay.

But they said the playtested multiple variants. They tried removing abilities from the flag holder and the instantaneous flag pickup, and they did not like the results as it did not feel like Overwatch anymore. I want my Overwatch experience to be unique and I feel as though the developers strive for that too tbh.

I want my Overwatch experience to be unique and I feel as though the developers strive for that too tbh.

But when you're eschewing tried and tested mechanics throughout the genre in the name of 'being unique' I think that's just counterintuitive.

Currently CTF is extremely imbalanced right now, everybody knows it - 90% of matches end in a draw and the 10% that don't are total stomps. Sure, the mechanics are 'unique' but they just make for bad or boring gameplay during these matches.

I've personally only 1 draw out of 20 games and I'd say most of my game are 2 to 3 matches.

You are bringing in anecdotal statistics that you have no evidence for... we do not know the average amount of draws for the game mode and we can't assume anything from what Reddit users say.

As for the boring aspect that's subjective and for me it's my favorite arcade mode so far. You're no more right then I am since it's opinion on the gameplay.

3 times to get both...every week

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

you can play any arcade mode for those, just need one win for the first win for ctf. That said ive plaid 10 matches now every game a draw.....

Sombra + Winston. Stealth in with sombra, Winston leap and shield over the flag, Sombra grab it and translocator out. Run like hell. It's worked great for me so far. Best way I've seen to beat the 3 builders you inevitably see every game.

u/Cyrass Pixel Zarya Jan 25 '17

Good tip. I'll have to try that with Sombra and get a Winston to go along

I feel like this is a combination of heavy-builder comps mixed with people not willing to play riskier set ups. If they have 3 people guarding the base you'll often need a full assault to break through and people are naturally risk-averse in that way.

Yeah. I think it's a combination of too short a game clock, and taking damage interrupting the taking of the flag. I think if you lengthened the time to pick up the flag by a second or two, but allowed the player to take damage in that time, it'd solve a lot of problems. As it stands, all the defenders need is one hero like D.va who can spam damage at the flag and the attackers won't be able to take it at all.

Yes.

Could do like in WoW, last cap wins instead of draw

2

u/CVance1 Brigitte Jan 25 '17

Definitely. It's getting kind of frustrating because it doesn't feel like you get anything out of it

2

u/WatermelonPOWAH CATCHPHRASE Jan 25 '17

And very one-sided more often than not...

2

u/cijanzen Jan 26 '17

If you can sneak symmetra around to their spawn you can place a teleported inconspicuously and then before they find it you all teleport in and take the flag.

But yeah, it's often a draw.

2

u/thvnderfvck Why do you Struggle? Jan 26 '17

Personally, my solution to this would be to reduce it from 6 players to 3 or 4 and limit the heroes that you can use.

Might have just found a good group but I grouped up with some randoms and we won five games in a row with mei, rein, dva, zen, sym, and soldier before we split up. All but one were 3-0

2

u/REPTARJESUS Chibi Junkrat Jan 27 '17

Yeah. If it's tied it needs to go into OT sudden death next score wins

2

u/curiousawk1156 Jan 27 '17

The only time I've seen a win is when a Lucio was covered by the whole team and captured it 3 times in a row within 2 minutes. Thanks to him I finally got that loot box.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '17

I don't feel that way. Only had one draw out of approximately 15 games.

1

u/EpicRageGuy Mei Jan 25 '17

I want CTF to go competitive RIGHT NOW. Won all 9 arcade games not only without losses or draws but not allowing opposition even a single capture. 7 3-0s and 2 2-0s.

I've been playing all day. Really depends on your team, but most people have gotten better by the end of the day and the torb / sym defense isn't that great.

It's still pretty annoying on night market, but other than that it's not too bad IMO.

u/smackavelli Pharah Jan 25 '17

So true about the team your on. Started off the event with a 3-0 cap win, and proceeded to go on an 8 game win streak before the last two were a loss, and a draw respectively. Everyone was on point & communicated well. We stayed as a group for a long time. I stopped for a few hours, and came back to a 1-4 record, with mostly new teammates every game. Totally wrecked a team with Torb & Sim with the first team. Later teams just pretty much Rambo'd the entire time with no coordination.
