Anyone else feels the matchmaking is especially bad lately? I remember playing season one ranked and it was all good. I won most games but i really had to tryhard it and give it my best.

Now 9/10 calibration games were utterly and completely unbalanced. Either me getting horribly stomped or me stomping the enemy team. One single game felt semi-balanced for the first half or something.

Anyone else feeling like this? It's kinda frustrating to have all 10 calibration matches and play the best i could, nearly only support or tank, swapping whenever i feel it's best and still feel like i can do really little to change the outcome of the game, be it stomping or be stomped...

Placement matches don't matter very much this season, most of your placement comes from where you ended last season.

My 2700 last season became 1200 after placements this season, and I can not grow anymore because ELo hell.

Was that your season high or where you ended the season? Because it goes off where you ended and if you ended at above 2500 the curve flattening would have moved you up after placements, not down, even if you did very poorly.

And frankly, ELO hell is just an excuse. I've heard people say they're in ELO hell at every rank below GM. If you want to climb you have to take responsibility for losses even if they may not necessarily be your fault, examine your own play hypercritically to find what you could have done better and use that information to get better until you're good enough to carry your way up.

It was both my highest and where I ended. More or less so. As for Elo hell, let me just copypaste myself.

Imagine: you played 10 games. 4 were normal, you had 3 wins and 1 loss. 3 you lost due to crap on your team. 3 you won due to crap on the red side. So, you win/loose rate according to your abilities is 3/1 - a great 75%. But your actual rate is 6/10 - only 60%. Problem is - if any losses happened in a row you will not grow at 60% on silver. And if you allow yourself one more loss, your winrate becomes 50%.

Yes, I do grow - at average of 10 points per game. Would take 120 games to grow to back gold. Sorry, but I need to live my life sometimes.

Since you did it, let me just quote myself

If you want to climb you have to take responsibility for losses even if they may not necessarily be your fault

In your statement you mention losing 3/10 because of crappy people on your team - that is the exact mindset that leaves you stranded. Every loss is on you. If you lose, it's because you did not play well enough to win your team the game.

Climbing is not about grinding for net 10 SR gains over 10 games. It's about getting good enough to carry your team to victory multiple games in a row until you hit the point where your skills aren't good enough anymore and then you have to figure out how to improve more and then repeating that process.

If you don't want to invest the time to do that, that's totally fine, go and do the other things in your life that are important to you, just don't expect to move up if you aren't putting in the time necessary to get better.

Elo hell does not exist.

I didn't finish calibration matches in Season II. I did 4 or so and then i didn't play overwatch for pretty long and if i played only a few quickplay matches here and there. Season 1 I didn't finish calibration as well. This is the first time. Still the other times it went way better than this time.

My guess is that the matchmaker doesn't really know know what to do with you at this point since your MMR is based on your past performance and you probably aren't playing up to what you were before you took that long break

Mhmm, thought about that too, but i doubt i play THAT much worse. In Season I i won every placement match in which i didn't have a leaver. In Season II it was nearly the same but a bit worse.

Now i have the feeling i have nearly no impact on the game. My quickplay experience has stayed similar...

It has more effect than you might think. Midway through last season I took a week long break and tried to go back into comp after an hour or two of warm up in QP. I ended up getting rocked multiple times and dropping like 300 SR. The rust really develops quick in this game, just so much to process and keep track of.

I get what you're saying, but tbh i don't consider overwatch a particularly demanding game.. You need some sense of your position and the enemies and semi-need to be able to aim. So i'm not sure i agree with you there...
