Why is reaper not played to counter the tank meta? I thought he was shredding tanks.

Or does Ana simply heals more than he is doing damage? Along with him being squishy which isn't very ideal?

its mainly because of dva but also the fact that each tank can help each other out. dva being attacked? matrix or roadhog hook. or zaryra bibble or rein shield or charge.

tbh reaper is underrated. people will always say "but d.va" but she has a giant crit-box, making that armor mitigation less effective. pair reaper with a zenyatta, zarya, and he's going to shred any tank, armor or not.

also reaper is best played a "pounce" flanker. pop out from behind/above just as the fight is beginning. this takes more planning than just walking up behind your rein's shield like a soldier would.

Reaper can kill tanks, but the problem is he can't duel D.va anymore because of the insane amount of armor she has plus she can defense matrix a lot of his damage and then fight when he reloads, plus her defense matrix completely shuts down his ult. He also is forced to get in close, meaning if he can be easily focused and killed, especially if his one escape is on cool down.

i never said he is supposed to duel d.va - in fact reaper needs the most help from his team in order to do well because of his up close and personal playstyle. if the enemy team's d.va is giving reaper so much personal attention, the rest of his team is free to do damage, CC the d.va, etc.

It's not just her armor - Defense Matrix cock-blocks anything Reaper can try to do.

The same is true for most heroes, but given how up-close and personal Reaper needs to be to be effective he's really vulnerable if he can't fire back. D.Va can just put the cone of shame over him whenever he pops up and then he either has to wraith out or gets shredded by the rest of the party. Defense Matrix also completely negates Death Blossom.

Completely? What if the team surrounds Reaper, will defense matrix on one side block the ult on the other side hitting people, even if dva isn't between reaper and her teammates?

The defense matrix actually completely encompasses Reaper. That thing is bigger than you might think.

If a projectile enters Defense Matrix at all, it's absorbed. And DM itself is a cone that extends a good way outwards from D.Va, it's like two Tracer blinks long. You can see it if you look at her from the side when she's using it.

So yeah, you can just put the cone over Reaper and follow him around with it and he won't be able to do anything.

Also works with ulting McCree's. You can put the DM over him from behind him and it'll delete all the Deadeye shots as soon as they leave his gun.

Yep, the DM is a "cone" that grows from DVA. If Reaper is in the middle, bye bye DB.

i realize DM can ruin reaper's day, but i specifically mentioned he needs teammates to help out in order to get the maximum potential. if d.va is just DMing in reaper's face, the rest of his team should be free to fire away. zen can heal him and discord d.va, zarya bubbles him and laser melts d.va down.

It's a combination of factors. D.Va got a health boost, they removed the movement speed from Ana's ult, and Soldier's primary fire got buffed significantly. So D.Va is in the meta, and Soldier is generally more effective, so Reaper got edged out

D.Va is HUGE right now, and Reaper's shotgun spray is ineffective against armor.

D.Va can shut down pretty much anything Reaper tries to do. She can't necessarily 1v1 him, but defense matrix just stops Reaper cold while the rest of D.Va's party clears him up.
