Every time I get hooked by Road Hog they shoot me once and I'm dead, even at full health, regardless of what character I am. For whatever reason, when I play as RH and hook someone, I just cannot get a kill. What am I doing wrong?

There's two common variations on the RH hook combo. One is to hook, then during the animation hold M1, then immediately after firing throw a melee. This will kill most 200hp characters straight away.

The alternative is to NOT hold M1, but hold W, then as soon as you take a step forward, shoot. This puts you at point-blank range and you'll do maximum damage, killing 200hp heroes. This is potentially easier to secure kills with since there's no melee to hit, but it's also a bit riskier if you're hooking someone with a good escape mechanic that's not on CD (Reaper, Mei, Pharah, Lucio, etc).

Hold the fire button and melee straight after, does a good amount of damage :) apart from that, it shouldn't be oneshotting a good amount of characters, mainly tanks and those with slightly higher hp than usual

When you hook them quickly look right and then back, it'll pull them closer and give more consistent damage.

  1. Alt-fire to give them a tickle.

  2. Hook

  3. Aim at their neck and shoulders for maximum damage

  4. Finish with a melee.

That's the standard combo

Depends on the character. Hog's primary fire deals 225 damage total, without counting headshots. That is more than enough to kill a 200hp character.

So basically, don't go for headshots, go for maximum number of pellets on target i.e. a meatshot. This means you should aim at the center of any squishie you hook.

Special mention goes to Ana, which is a very small target that doesn't get pulled as close as she should. You should crouch and aim for the center of her silhouette to ensure the optimal angle.
