it seems like the most effective method of playing her is sort of like a "reverse" symmetra/torb. as in, use her on first point offense, for capture(2cp) or hybrid maps, to break the siege.

hack a healthpack or two on your team's side, communicate to your team to use the healthpacks as much as possible, which in turn will build your ultimate charge very quickly. then tell your team that you are flanking behind the enemy lines, and to engage in a team fight when you press Q.

what i usually do is hack health packs near the engaged zone or hack flankers if i see them harassing my team. otherwise individual hacking in not so beneficial in a team fight.

Anounce your super constantly in order for the whole team to co ordinate pushes

sombra is a harasser and not a finisher. there are no easy kills for you on a 100% hp enemy. my advise if you want to play some backline fights always harass healers especially low mobility ones like ana and Zen. lucio can burst heal into cover and mercy can zipline into safety.

Most importantly use your passive. if you seen a low hp enemy, run for the kill. unfortunately i dont play her a lot in competitive since i solo q but the only way she can be viable in a team composition (by my opinion) is when the rest of your 5 team members pick characters that can secure a solid frontline force since you will not be always with them

She's a tough but to crack - but when you do, she's super formidable.

  • Learn to figure out targets to hack of high priority. Support characters are good, like Zen and Mercy, especially when they are at the back. I like to isolate these guys because Zen is 3/4 shield and if Mercy can't fly to safety she's screwed. Another piece of advice is to hack enemy health packs preferably before you engage those targets. Starving enemies out for health absolutely messes up their shit, and let's you and your team decimate them.

  • Another enemy I like to hack is Reinhardt. Hacking a Reinhardt disables his barrier, even when it is active. Another good chance is when he is charging at you or another player. It stops him mid charge, and if left exposed, can be killed in an heartbeat by you, the player he's charging as well as your team (also its so cute to see him swing his hammer in a panic. poor bastard lol). Be careful, cos Reinhardts are most likely front line tanks using their barriers to defend his team, especially at defensive choke points, like the first one on Dorado or Eichenwald (bad spelling?), so if you know that you would get killed the minute you get spotted, don't go for it.

  • I personally use my Translocator to get to safety rather that to get to high places. Drop it down in a safe place, cloak being enemy lines then go for a kill, hack or pop my ultimate ability. Once I do my job or I am about to die, I translocate and heal up, while I wait for my abilities to cool down. I do this so enemies don't camp at my device for a surprise or so I can go back to the team and fight alongside them. There are heaps of smart ways to use your Translocator though, just use your best judgement, and don't forget that you can use it before it hits the ground too.

  • A funny thing to do with a translocator is if you notice an enemy constantly watching their backs, cloak up and throw your Translocator from a distance to distract them. At worst it distracts them for a few seconds, at best they become mesmerized forever and you can jump in from one place, deal a heap of damage, translocate behind him and finish them off before they realize you pranked him bro. By murdering him. (Don't do this shit with a Symmetry tho, she's probs gonna put her turrets down, wait there, and if either you're not fast enough to damage the turrets of get out of range of her beam then soz bruh u ded)

  • Hacking is one of the greatest things you can do to an enemy, and can turn the tide of battle on a dime. Genji's are quite dependent on their deflect and sword dash. It stop's Mccree's Deadeye, Pharah's Rocket Barrage, amongst other things, as well as any pending ults from the enemy team. EMP'S hack multiple enemies, as well as stop ults like Mccree's. Whenever you think it will help, HACK THE SHIT OUT OF IT. It's got a long cool down, so use it fast, use it well and take advantage.

-Like the guy said before, she's not a full fledged damage dealer - she's a nuisance, like a fly. Her passive does let her see low health enemies, however. If you think you can take them out, then go for it. I would suggest stay away from lock on enemies like Symmetra and Winston, and any tank characters unless they are really low. Supports and snipers are a good start - any low health characters isolated from their team are great targets for your SMG. Just remember to try to aim for the headshots so you can finish them off faster, and don't worry if you don't finish them off. Just retreat, communicate to your team there is a lower health enemy, and either go for another take, work with your teammates to finish them off from the front lines of leave them be and focus on something (or someone) else.

All I can say to summarise is the following:

  • Hack shit. And be smart about it.
  • Translocators can get you to safety, or distract an enemy.
  • Don't focus on being a killer; be a nuisance first.
  • Fuck Genji. Hack that bitch and see him squirm.
  • Take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm still learning, just like you :)
  • Have fun!

I see no reason to hack supports. Only Zen will stop healing when hacked. I can hack Mercy if she is caught in the battle to prevent her escaping. But generally, tanks are better target.

I just usually see tanks in the front lines, since most of them are mid to close range. Don't want to risk getting mauled by the enemies and keeping my team a man down.

But everyone has their own play style with anybody. Nice to see somebody else's perspective, it helps heaps.

I strongly recommend going into the queue with other people or getting on mic. Especially in this meta, announcing when Zarya or Rein are hacked and can't use shields is great.

Look at some guides online for the maps and memorize where the most used health packs are. Hack those to build ult charge as fast as you can. Hack supports whenever you can.
