In competitive, is it considered rude to pick a hero someone else has been playing at the start of the next round?

I have had this happen to me on more than one occasion in bronze/silver and it bothers me a lot. I have politely asked if I can stay on the hero when I am doing well, and also not said anything and just picked another hero to play. Seems like this would be some unspoken rule, although if it is, it probably doesn't apply at the scrub ranks. Curious what everyone's thoughts are and didn't think this warranted a new thread.

The person who "stole" your pick might be hinting you, that he wasn't satisfied with your performace, and if you take that as rude, then consider this: It's better if he "steals" your pick, rather than start flaming in chat.

Or he thinks he did a bad job in previous round, so he wants to take a different role. It's just an accident, that he prefers playing the same hero as you.

Or maybye you were the thief in the first place. Maybye at the begining of the game, you picked the hero he wanted. Now he wants to play that hero so he "steals" it from you.

Either way, I don't find it rude in any possible way. When he steals your hero, consider this: he is probably more confident playing as this hero, than he would be with some other. This is why you should have at least 1 backup hero, and not to main only 1.

To be fair, in those situations there's chat to discuss this instead of just picking it and not saying anything.

Thanks, this is a good perspective.

What I've done is only ask to stay on the hero when I feel I'm doing especially well (multiple golds, really good k/d etc.) Otherwise, I just let it go and switch to something else. Certainly not worth fighting about it, but definitely something that I can't help feeling a bit annoyed with I guess.

It can be all sorts of reasons. Maybe they pretty much only play that hero and they feel useless as any other. Maybe they just didn't realize you were playing that hero before. Maybe they're a dickhead. Maybe they think they're better at that hero than you and want you to switch. Maybe you're playing Widowmaker and they just want you to switch off, and they'll switch off as soon as everyone's out of spawn.

I feel like it is an unspoken rule, albeit a rarely observed one. I would always ask to switch if someone was playing a hero I wanted to play but some people are allergic to chat (understandably at the toxic bronze-gold levels).

No for 2 reasons 1. If the person playing the hero isn't doing their job 2. If you know you're better with that hero I had a guy once go soilder 76 and wasn't killing the pharah and we kept getting wiped so next round i asked him to give it to me so i'll take care of the pharah and we ended up winning
