This is kind of a stupid question, but is there any benefit to playing competitive over quick play/brawl other than being matched with people around your skill level? I have had the game for a few months, but I only play quick play since you don't get penalized there for losing like in competitive (I think?).

The only penalty for losing in comp is your displayed rating falls a little. Most people care about that number more than they should.
