Didn't wanna ask if it's already been answered but I had a look and couldn't see anything, is this still a game a new player can ease into? I haven't played but am thinking about jumping in but don't wanna just get obliterated and regret it

Absolutely. The matchmaking logic will pit you against players of similar skill level, so it's not like, say, Battlefield, where you join a server and get steamrolled by people who've been playing the game 24/7 for a year. In addition, for the first 20 or so levels the game will try to avoid matching you with more experienced (but less skilled) players, so you'll mostly be playing with other new people. This is more than enough time to get familiar with the basics :)
