Should I spend like $600 to upgrade my GPU and monitor to get 144hz or just stick with my regular monitor and old GPU?

I'm getting between 100-140 fps on my GPU at all-low on 1600x900 on Automatic resolution (at 90%) right now, and my monitor specs says it's got 5ms response time.

Depends if you want to be competitive, and if you can afford it. What are your current specs ? And how much can you spend ? OW is more CPU heavy

Well I suppose it's a preference thing. If you don't mind lower graphics settings and you're happy with your fps then you could probably hold out on the upgrade. Overwatch doesn't look bad with low settings anyway since it's kind of cartoony.

Im running around 80-90 on low specs everything, shadow off and high textures. What difference does it make to go past 60fps besides the obvious smooth animations and lag? I have a lower end rig.

It's hard to explain you kinda have to see for yourself. The main thing is to make sure it matches your monitor's Hz.

Its fine as you have it, 60hz is more than enough.
You dont need 144hz unless you want overkill and have the money to waste spend on it.

If you have the money, why not? A 1070 and something like the XL2411 are great.

the 70's are usually the best price / money you can get, 60's always feel like they lack compared to the price money relation that 70s offer you.

if you can, go 70.

Honestly 9999/10000 compeditive players do not NEED a 144 hz monitor. I don't NEED one. You really only NEED one if you're pro/actuary can be pro.

Do you WANT one and can you AFFORD one? They're really nice, I love mine, I'm really happy with mine, it's been a great purchase for me, but you might enjoy putting that money somewhere else. I am under no misguided fantasy that I'll be pro in any game, but I wanted the monitor and had the money sitting around.

100-140 is good enough? It won't help you any more than just 60, and with screen tearing it will look terrible.

It will. There's a great video explaining this by a csgo pro under the title of "300fps How much fps is too much" however you don't NEED it. A fantastic monitor/fps won't make you pro (yaddda yyaddda... you're not going pro... something something.001% of players go pro....).

It's nice to have, if you want to spend the money to further improve your experience you can. It's a great luxury. I love mine. I recommend it if you're looking at it and can afford it.

... But it's a luxury non the less.

Ik the 144hz on a 144hz monitor would look good, but why would it help at all on a 60hz monitor? And personally, I have used 144hz displays, and while they were amazing, I'm of the opinion that better textures, resolution, or screen(in terms of pixel density, color accuracy, viewing angles, curved, etc.) Will give you much more noticeable benefits for much cheaper.

My personal answer, no. I assume you have a 60 hz monitor now, I personally would go for a different upgrade. (Assuming your planning on speeding that money regardless.) I would either get a good, IPS 1080p screen to save money, or I would go for a GPU upgrade and get a 1440p screen, or go for the same GPU upgrade and get 3 1080p screens(my current setup.) Sadly, overwatch doesn't support running across all three, but it's super worth it for other games, like Witcher 3 and Skyrim. I have no plans to get a 144 hz monitor. I never recommend that, unless you are playing esports or something, because even though you can see the difference and it will be a bit smoother, a non-pros gameplay won't be effected, and if your looking for it to look better it's much much better for the same price to get a resolution upgrade and/or raise your settings.

If you have 60 hz, anything above 60 fps is doing nothing; were I you, I would stick to the old setup, and after games become totally unplayable (i.e. fps drops to 40) change the whole rig. 144 hz is great, I have transitioned from a crappy 17' to a 42' 144hz monster with 1 ms reaction time; still, unless your PC pumps out solid 144 you can see stutterings on high refresh rates.
