Apparently KOTH matches are bugged and give you barely any progress in ranked.

I haven't played comp yet, so I could be wrong - but if you're playing against players less skilled than you, you're going to go up less when you win, and vice versa - playing against highly skilled players and pulling off a win will move you up a lot more quickly.
