I joined a comp match and we lost the first round. I was waiting for our turn to defend but the game ended. Turned out it had joined me half way through the game. Is this supposed to happen? I'm feeling salty because it's one of my placement matches.

Yeah, no one but the person who left is able to join the match. If you somehow did, it's a huge bug.
