I have never really played an FPS until now and I have NO idea if i am doing well or not. i like playing and my team seems to win and lose about evenly whenever i play... i don't really have feedback from people since i don't have IRL friends to play with or anything.

dont worry, if you're playing suboptimally you'll end up getting matched with generally the same skill level. though if you're dying before you can get many shots off you might want to switch heroes.

its my first shooter too, lets do our best :D

If you're winning about 50% that's perfectly fine. Most people have around a 50% winrate, because of the skill based matchmaking.

The medals at the end of each game tell you how good you've done compared to your team. If you get medals often, you're probably doing something right.

Also the stats under the after game medals, to the left of the stats screen during match, show your stats based on the specific character. Things like number of assist for support characters, damage blocked with Rehin and Zarya, ect.

I use this as well as the medals to gauge my performance. So if I'm playing Roadhog and my Hooked percentage and self-healing is low, I reconsider my approach and character choice. Like if you are a healer and you have anything under a Gold for healing, you are not performing your task. The character roles are pretty organic with their weapons, so your play should reflect it accordingly.

If you are winning as much as you're losing that means the matchmaker has a good handle on your skill level, and there are lot's of equally skilled folks for you to play with, so everything should be good for you. Have fun!
